David, Placing a larger speaker in the stock rear speaker location will bring no improvement in sound quality over the original speaker. The problem with the original set up is that the speaker is supported by a hose clamp attached to the speaker magnet, there is no attachment between the speaker frame and the panel. A loudspeakers low end (bass) response is very much dictated by the baffle that it is mounted in. Unfortunately in the De Lorean rear speaker design there is no baffle, this is an acoustical no! no!. You well get better results with more flexibility in speaker choices by mounting the speakers in the parcel shelf back panel below the rear window.
