There are several things that you can do in this area. First add an 
emergency release cable(the pull cable tends to break at the handle 
due to flexing). There are 2 springs in the latch, shorten the upper 
one slightly. Check that the stop bumpers are just touching the 
bonnet(hood to us americans) and the restraining brackets are lined
up 
so as to engage in the event of an accident.
