[DML] Re: Air conditioning from R12 to R13

it is my understanding that changing the type of refrigerant grades requires a different set of nozzles to be installed in the compressor for max. refrigertion effect.

I also thought that federal law required a cfc permit pump the old coolant out of the system and to certify that there are no leaks before replacing the coolant.

i'm not a ase or hvac mechanic, but this is the info I got when I asked a friend about it.

Has anyone had any experience with changing the coolant for the air
conditioner from R12 to R13? I have seen kits at the auto store that claim
that it is a simple matter of just changing the coolant. However I seem to
think that there might be more involved.

Thanks!

Dave
