Dear List,

Does any one know what the original door struts look like. Mine are
Lift-O-Mats that were made in Mexico (I find it hard to believe that
Mexican made struts were factory installed in 1981). Are these the
ones that came on the car or has this been my t-top problem all the
time. Also does any one have a measurement on these units, how long
they are.

I was also researching these lift-o-mat struts awhile back, I had them on my car when I purchased it. Until one day the driver side strut lost its gas. I decided to just purchase new struts from PJ Grady. And I'm glad I did. They totally out perform the lift-o-mats.
PJ Gradys struts seem to be a little longer in length than my old struts, sorry don't know how much longer.
And Stabilus, who makes the lift-o-mat struts is a German company with 7 other locations around the world including Mexico.
I also had a problem with one of my doors hitting the t-panel, I adjusted the height by loosening the panel screws. Problem solved.

Mike,

The struts that you got from PJ Grady are what he terms "One Click" struts. This means they are normal rated struts as called for in the Delorean design Plus one torque rod click adjustment. using these "One Click's" is the same as adding a click in the torque rod adjustment.

My D got a set for x-mass and is very happy, NO MORE LOP EARED D!

My doors open with little effort and stay up even on cold days.

They come in Right and left side so be sure you have installed them correctly.
If you are not sure, the label should be readable from the out side looking into the D.
