[DML] Epoxy

I am currently buying a DeLorean Vin 3003. My question is the chasiss is
black like it has been painted. I have been told that some cars have been
treated in someway. Anyone know anything about it? The has spent half its
life in Arizona and the rest in a Garage. Also there is a plate on the Air
filter assembly which has "Don Lorean motor company" writen on it and over
the contact block(?) at the back on the left of the engine bay it has a
metal plate over it with DMC writen on it, in the same font as on the plate.
Its not the DMC font and has been added at a later stage. Any ideas? There
is a metal plate diagonal across the HT stuff on the right at the back and
no box
