[DML] 8583? No way, but maybe in the USA!

Hello,

The total number of 8,583 DeLoreans produced was published in one of the first DeLorean World's from the DOA. Now, I know there are some DOA board members who are subscribing to this list, so please check into this, will you? Where did the DOA the 8,583 number??? Or maybe there was a print error so that the number should read 9,583? :)

This is an area of the DeLorean story that every owner should be interested in because this can affect the car's value! No, Im definitely not saying that we should "go" for the most pleasing lower number of 8583.

But the truth must be told!

If not, there will be problems when experts will define the cars value. You can't put a value on a series of cars if you dont know the production volume. Of course I doubt if we will ever get the exact figure but the analysis can show a estimated gap of 500/1000 more DeLoreans. This has also something to do with the cars reputation, and last but not least credibility! Every owner should care!

Obviously, as most of us know, the factory produced +/- 10,000 DeLoreans. The 10,000 number have been set out by factory workers who are sure that they built at least 10,000 DeLoreans.

Robert Lamrock's useful info from the UK government states:
"...sales of cars to 31 January 1982 were:-
cars produced 8,333
cars shipped to USA 7,401
cars sold to dealers 5,114
retail sales by dealers 3,347 "

Now, this CLEARLY shows that the production HAD REACHED 8,333 cars by the end of January. And I don't believe that the factory produced exactly 250 cars(!) from Feb. to Oct. 1982!

Also, I know a gentleman in Sweden who have DeLoreans with VIN 11786 which is the highest VIN I've ever come across! What is special is that this car was imported from Saudi-Arabia!

The 8,583 number can also be the total number of cars shipped to the United States, forgetting to include export to other parts of the world.

Not all DeLoreans have been reported it seems. We know of DeLoreans going to both South Africa and Saudi Arabia/Kuwait. Question is whether they were exported right from the factory when they were on the brink of bankruptcy... If that is true then this must have been a decision of the British receivers...(Can somebody phone Sir Kenneth Cork? He must know!)

Just put yourself in the executive chair...if a wealthy oil millionaire from Arabia showed up with lots of $$$ asking to buy some cars, wouldn't you have said "yes!"???

Best wishes
