The Bosch fuel injection system used in the DeLorean was used in a great
variety of European cars. Volvo used a carbon copy in the PRV engine. Engine
fires haven't been a problem with them. First off one has to realize the
system is under quite a bit of pressure, aprox 5.2 Bar or 75 lbs. I belive
it was Claude that mentioned replaced the copper sealing washers used on
both the top and bottom of the banjo fittings connecting the fuel lines to
the fuel distributor. They are easy to drop when disassembling the fuel
lines and aren't always the easiest thing to find on a Saturday afternoon.
Once used they've been flattened and have lost some of the sealing quality
they should have. Maybe the DeLorean, being a "hobby car" sees more Saturday
back yard mechanics than the Volvo. The point I'm making is the system
design is excellent but attention needs to be paid in making sure all
connections are properly sealed. After all your holding back 75 psi.
