[DML] Torsion bar appearance

My torsion bars have some light rust looking odd brown spotting color on
them. It's not that bad but it looks dirty when I open my doors at car
shows. I know not to touch the bars with anything, as any scratched or
nicks can cause that awful BANG!!! sound to possibly happen! My
question is..... Can the bars be painted with anything to cover up this
discoloration? Perhaps a small brush and some silver Krylon sprayed
into a cup and then applied? I know the bars need to twist but I would
like any opinions on what possible options ther might be. The bars work
great and I would rather avoid buying new ones just for some
discoloration.
