I can drive the car almost all the time without the stuttering clutch, but
it takes a bit of timing and skill. So much skill, in fact, that it has to
be a problem with the car. This chattering began only in 2nd and seems to
have affected all gears.

It really doesn't matter exactly what is wrong inside. The only way
you are going to fix it is to take it apart and that means removing
the transmission. Once you have it out the cause will be very
apparant. Of course I am assuming you are shifting correctly. You can
cause a vibration if you are shifting too early into too high a gear.
Before tearing the clutch out try varying your shift technique. Stay
in your gears a little longer before shifting, Maybe that will help.
