As long as it isn't slipping you're in good shape.  I just had my tranny rebuilt two months ago, so I understand your concern.  In fact, the day the tranny was fixed and they were lowering it off th lift, my shifting cable snapped in half.  Heh, quickest $90.00 ever spent.
