Hi Bobby,
No idea where the diode is but a diode basically is a device that only
lets
electrisity flow in one direction. You can check if a diode still works by
checking the resitance of the diode (while its not wired up to the
circuit).
Measure it one way and it should show a very high resistance, turn the
wires
around and it should show a very low resistance.
If a diode is broken it usually doesn't let any current flow in any
direction so it could very well be your problem.

To check the diode, use and ohm meter. On way should be infinite
resistance, the other a short. Some meter will have a diode check
function. You can also use that in the same manner. The band around one
side of the diode is the negative side. A good diode will read a short (or
a junction drop with a diode tester) when connected correctly. It will be
infinite when backwards.
Otherwise, if you don't have an ohm meter: Connect a 12v lamp in series
with the diode. Try placing it both ways across a 12v dc source. It should
light up one direction and not the other. If it lights up both ways or
neither way it is bad.

Make sure the battery is fully charged, it may be too low to start
the car. Check to see if you have spark at one of the spark plugs, if
not then you have to check out the ignition system. Could be as simple
as loose-dirty connections at the ballast resistors or more
complicated like a bad pick-up coil in the distributer. If you are
getting spark then shoot a LITTLE starting fluid into the air intake
while you are cranking, that should make it fire a little, now you
know it is a fuel system problem and have to troubleshoot those
subsystems. It could even be as simple as a broken fuel gauge and now
you are out of gas!

before being too enthusiastic about associating our marque with a

P.S. -- Just to anticipate the next chapter of this sad story: Where
did this "200 mile mark" come from? According to their web site:
"... the most effective [electric] vehicles have a maximum range of no
more than 220 miles, most far less than that. The TEV will be driven at
highway speeds around the Nashville Super Speedway, stopping only to
change drivers, for a total distance many multiples of this "longest
expected distance". In fact, as the demonstration will prove, at the end
of the allotted time period the battery bank will still register a FULL
CHARGE condition!"
200 miles wouldn't prove anything--even if their unaudited battery gauge
still registers a "FULL CHARGE".

Yeah, that's what got me. It only takes a hidden 9-volt battery to make a
"battery gauge" register "Full Charge". When it makes headline news,

claim that they will "change the world".
