Walter,
I have had to disassemble and fixed head light switches on several
occasions, its not too bad, just look very closely and you can figure out
what's happening, if the contacts get too hot, then it all stats to melt and
fuse together, then you will be needing some new parts or a new switch...it
you get stuck, I have some switches with the same internals, just swap
everything around...try and get fixed up in the USA first.

Maybe your Volvo technician threw a monkey wrench into the Porsche?
Seriously, the DeLorean does perform about equal to a Porsche 944 or 924S, and better than a
Porsche 924 or 914. But the only inexpensive way to make a DeLorean beat a competition tuned 911
would be a nitrous oxide system, which could not operate without the driver's knowledge.

STOP!
Most oil leaks are caused by a failed seal at the oil sender switch. The oil that leaks out of the switch usually collects at the oil pan mimicking an oil pan leak. Actually the engine manufacturing plant did an excellent job on the oil pan and gasket.
A fact, few DeLorean owners realize, is that the oil pan is heavy cast which greatly increases the sealing quality and longevity of the oil pan gasket. Most DeLorean's, including very high mileage cars, are still equipped with the factory oil pan gasket which is still leak free. Not a common occurrence among the average automobile engine.

When i bought my Delorean, i noticed that the underside of the engine was
covered in oil. One of the spots that it appeared to be coming from was
the oil pan gasket. I bought a new gasket and attempted to install it
myself. I took 15 or so bolts off the oil pan when i realised the final
bolts in the back were blocked by the frame of the car. Is there any easy
way to gain access to those bolts? or do i have to loosen the entire
engine?

I don't belive thats correct. The watch is being sold to raise money for the
car. They have a new contract now and very shortly will be sending out full
contracts to original people who sent in the form and will be requesting a
deposit for the watch.
If you read the bottom of the newer form you'll see it talks about the
deposit.

Y'all ought to try Porsche or Ferrari prices - my 911 oil change (non-synthetic) is $150 and the convertible top latch for my Ferrari Mondial t Cab was $530 (installed, of course). That is the only idividual part available for the top such that if the top is damaged, you need to replace the top AND the framework for about $5,000...maybe that us why the Ferrari has only been driven 300 mile in the last year.
So, let us all be grateful we own DeLoreans as well as our other cars.

In my opinion if the prices of the delorean parts started to reflect
what it would cost to duplicate and replace New Old Stock (NOS) then
you would see significantly higher prices being charged. We still are
not paying much more than the parts cost in the early 80's adjusted
for inflation. Call me a traitor but if the prices of the parts was
higher then the cars (at least the ones in good shape) would be worth
alot more. Think about it, if you could buy a parts car for $6,000
and
the parts to fix it up was $10,000 then the running car that could be
purchesed instead would be worth more because of the labor and time
required. Also if you ever went to the dealer to order a part for
your
daily driver how often did the dealer have to order the part and tell
you 2-3 days and then find out it's backorderd to a regional
wharehouse or maybe the vender and wait a week or more? We as
delorean
owners are very fortunate to have such a large supply of parts as
quick as we want them. Most people are not aware of the fact that
when
production was shut down there was a large supply of parts that was
returned to the parts supply from the assembly line. As an orphan
make
we were blessed with a very large supply of parts. This is a
double-edged sword as it has kept the venders from having to source
many parts and paying current prices and passing those costs along.
Another fact is that many parts can be gotten from other car dealers
like volvo. Price a fuel distributer from a volvo dealer and compare
it to a delorean vender. See how long it would take to get because
they don't stock such "old" parts. Ask them how to troubleshoot a
problem and then thank people like DMC Joe or Rob Grady who not only
will spend the time with you but really know the car and can help you
over the phone without seeing the car. If you don't patronize the
dealers who are trying to make a living keeping the marque alive then
a strange thing will happen, there won't be people like this because
they coudn't make a living at it. Then you won't hear anyone
complaining about prices because there are no parts to buy at any
price. You will start to stick in parts that aren't quite right or
maybe not fix some things. The cars will get worse and worse and
worth
less and less. Whenever I go to car shows and people ask about parts
they are surprised that you can buy them. In some cases I believe it
keeps some from considering buying a Delorean. Just my $.02 worth

Any loose connection in a high current circuit will cause overheating. With the right conditions melting will occur even in a fused circuit. Evidently the previous fix was not very secure. Just be sure that your connections are tight and secure and you should have no meltdown problems.

Well, I finally got it figured out. The car is started an running
fine. It turns out that the previous owner had COMPLETELY removed the
inertia switch!!! No wonder I couldn't find it. There was a jumper
wire connecting the ground to the fuel pump that had burned, melted, and
corroded to the point where it lost contact. This could also explain
the problem I have been having with my power locks since those unlock
wires are not connected to anything. So here is my next question... I
am probably going to order a new inertia switch, get a new harness
connector, (existing one is burned and melted), and it will all be
good. But right now I am wondering what could have caused this to
burn/melt in the first place? I could see no obvious signs of shorts,
and shouldn't a fuse have blown instead of this? Right now I'm running
on a new jumper wire I wedged in place. But I would still like to know
what kind of fire hazard I'm running here. Thanks for everyone's help.

Hello List,
Well yesterday I wanted to wash a car in the driveway. So I moved
my DeLorean out of the driveway and into the street out front of my
house.
After I was done I went in the house for about an hour. I went back
outside to move my D back in the driveway. And what do you think I
didn't see, my grill!
I couldn't believe it, I felt so dirty and violated.
When my new grill is delivered I'm going to add two small metal
cables to attach from the grill to the facia. And I'm also thinking
of adding a hot wire with a door plunger to break the circuit, I want
the cars horn to go off when someone tries to remove the grill.
Or am I just being really paranoid about leaving my Delorean outside.

how does the unit get its ground? If not, does it leak?

Since it has been brought up I am curious to know why the vin number
