Subject: Engine Compartment LIGHT Wiring Question.
Hi
My engine compartment light wiring (purple, purple/white on the electrical
chart) appears to be missing.
When I bought my car the engine compartment light didn't work. After
having
the rear facia removed, stripped and repainted I noticed that the rear
wiring harness doesn't appear to have these wires in the bundle. Not sure
it it was disconnected at some point or just never there. Am I looking
for
the right colored wires (purple, purple/white)?
The harness in question has a big black plug that connects to the back
righthand wall in the engine compartment. It's wiring bundle contains the
electrical wires for the rear side marker lights, rear license plate
lights
and all the operating and turn signal lights in the rear lenses.
Can you help?
Thanks

P.S. The engine compartment light SWITCH (near the resister) appears to
be
wired correctly.

As is often the case, the answer is already on the DMCNews web at
http://www.dmcnews.com/Resource/rpm2mph.html
Where James put it there about 4 years ago.

Since it's getting to the later half of the year, I've opened up the
Christmas Card portion of the DMCNews Merchandise section. It may
seem early, but December comes quickly.
I also still have some of the "Espey" posters and radio Service
Manual reproductions. Check it out at

Subject: Re: Evaporative Control System
The first thing to check is that the vapor hose from tank to vapor
cannister is not kinked or plugged up. The tank should not build up
pressure, It can be exceedingly dangerous to have a pressurized gas
tank, it would spew gas and vapors under pressure and could be a
blowtorch that could cause an explosion, at the very least disconnect
the vapor hose at the tank and let it vent until you can fix it
right,
you may vent some vapors but it won't be as dangerous as pressurizing
the tank.

Subject: Re: Doors
Adjusting the torsion bars is not a task to be taken lightly. In
addition to all of the previosly mentioned dangers take note of the
following; the plastic trim covering the anchor bolts is very rare
hence unobtainable, the edge of the "T" roof under the trim is razor
sharp so when you take out the bolts from the anchors you can remove
chunks of skin, during adjustment if the bar moves around and gets
scratched it WILL break, the bracket that the anchor bracket bolts to
can come loose or the threads can strip, rarely but sometimes the
anchor bracket is difficult to remove from the torsion bar. In light
of all of the possibilities it is best to get someone who has
expierience in this procedure or at least watch it being done. Most
delorean clubs have an occasion that this is done or members familiar
with the procedure. Please do not hurt yourself or use up valuable
replacement parts, there will never be "repro" torsion bars, when the
stock is depleted that will be it.During our door adjustment social
this April in Westwood N.J. even with Rob Grady there was 1 car we
could not adjust the door on, the anchor bracket anchor was loose and
stripped. You must always know your limits, there is a tremendous
amount of power in the torsion bars and it can get away from you
quickly, so this is one area of the car that a novice should stay
away
from. Without the best tools and an intimate knowledge of all the
possiblities that can occur do not attempt the adjustment. With
breaker bar in hand is not the time to call for help because you
can't
get the anchor bracket back on and your bleeding on the tools.

Subject: Re: Engine Compartment LIGHT Wiring Question.
Mike,
Maby they took the wires out. The purple wire from fuse #12 goes into the
light box and the purple / white goes to the switch, it normally open and
when the lid is raised it shorts the switch to ground to luminate. The
light
is in series with the voltage going to ground. Be sure you have a good
ground.
