Thanks to all who responded to my heat question.

- There doesn't seem to be a leak in the cooling system as I have had a
pressure test done inmediately after I noticed the low coolant level.
The 'leak' I saw turned out to be the A/C dripping condensed water. I'm
watching this like a paranoid before every ride though.

- I don't know if/when the fans came on when the temp raised because I
had the A/C on which makes a lot of noise. Next time that will be the
first thing I do since the radiator works as designed (driving car
lowers temp).

- The most likely cause seems the air bubble in the system. I got my
manuals today (thanks USADMC) so I'll check those, plus the DMCNews
archives for pointers on how to efficiently bleed the air, plus maybe
replace the entire coolant fluid (why not while I'm at it).

- I'm considering the Overheat protection from DeLorean Services as
that seems a painless way to avoid overheating due to airbubbles
(considering I can easily install it myself).

I'm starting to get good at this :)

Thanks again,

Sacha

I get really tired of all the DeLorean One bashing.  Ed is a very busy
man and justifiably does not have the time to spend hours a day getting
his brain picked by people who only want  free answers.  How many of you
"donate" your working hours to "do-it-yourselfers" when you have paying
customers waiting for your time also?  I bet most of the free loaders
don't even pay for the call but use the 800 number.
I wish my other cars had someone like Ed to service them.  He is a
perfectionist and does beautiful, quality work that he stands behind
100%.  Sounds like sour grapes to me.

For all of you that are interested in everything
DeLorean, here's a little item that I dicovered by
accident:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00002NCK1/o/qid=965251675/sr=8-1/ref=aps_sr_th_1_3/002-6355443-7913641

It's tile grout sold by Amazon.com that is colored
"DeLorean Gray."  Just what every "D" owner needs.

The original message indicated that "The original factory coating was
actually a powdercoat process "

I believe the original coating was an liquid epoxy coating which is not as
good a coating as powder coating.  The bond created in the powder coat
process is extremely tight and no liquid process can beat it.  You can
powder coat springs and it will last.  BTW ... if you want to powder coat
the frame, have the first coat applied as a zinc rich coating for added rust
resistance.  Then have the next coat be the color coat.

VMR does not provide pricing information for any 1981-1983 models, hence
nothing on the DeLorean.  They only provide a link to AutoTrader online
where you can search classifieds for cars for sale.  Same thing with
Hemmings, they only provide classifieds for cars for sale.  Problem with
either of these is that they only have ASKING prices.  SELLING prices are
where the "true" values are found, and then only when collectively averaged
within categories of conditions.  Selling prices at first class auctions
such as Kruse (with lots of bidders) is another good source of values.
Another problem with establishing relevant DeLorean values is that so few
of them go through "standard" selling channels, thus collecting a useable
and current base of selling prices is difficult if not entirely impossible.
The value of a DeLorean or any other "collectible" is largely determined
by the economy.  When the economy is good, prices are up.  When the economy
sours, so do prices.

Bravo!  (sarcastic tone)  I was very proud of the fact that, although we are revisiting this subject, this time there wasn't the "Bashing" we'd seen before.  Rather, this time, people seemed to calmly and  factually, state their experiences.  Apparently even bare facts are going to ruffle some people's feathers though.  Responding to price inquiries and "minor" technical advice is simply part of doing this sort of business.  It's often referred to as "Customer Service".  I'll conclude with this:  If a vendor simply cannot answer perspective customer's questions AND at the same time service current customers, how do DMC Houston, PJ GRady, and Delorean Services stay in business?  Stephen?  Rob?  Joe?  How do you guys do what is apparently impossible?

P.S. I appologize for the sarcastic tone of this posting, but I'm sick of hearing people defend the rude, discourteous, and unprofessional behavior of this vendor.  If you personally have had a good D1 experience, then feel free to say that, but there is no defense for how others (many) have been treated.

I think I understand what you are saying - but it's not sour grapes.  I've
got a place to deal with that supplies what I want - parts at a fair
price, and they are willing to take the time to answer questions.

I make a serious effort to buy from the folks that give me the time to
answer questions - in fact I'm less likely to even price shop once I've
found some place that will help me with a few questions.  (Althought I
have checked prices with DMC Joe a few times - at some point I'll order
from him just because of all the time he spends here answering questions.)

(And price shopping and asking a few questions is a quick way to get a
feel for how interested a place is in getting your business.)

At some point I'll  be ordering a windshield and several interior parts
(including a dash) from one of those more helpful places.

No price shopping.

No questions.

Just "here's my credit card number and shipping address."  Just the kind
of bread and butter business every place wants.

But I guess you can tell from my earlier post who won't be getting that
business . . . but again - no sour grapes here.  I've got what I want -
and just wanted to warn the new owners what mistake not to make when
dealing with him.

And yes - I've seen several posts from people that have gotten great work
done there.  Hopefuly this thread won't continue too much longer - but I
did want to address that it wasn't sour grapes . . .

Subject: Delorean One (Was: Re: Re: Chassis removal)

I have to respond to this post even though I am new, sorry if I am
out of line:
I for one donate my time in trying to help others out with their
delorean questions and answer (and yes I deal with BIG paying
companies such as AOL and other ISP's and paging companies) along
with other members on this list. I have even put a website, along
with half of other members on this list, to donate time and help (and
yes I do and try to answer questions during the course of my working
day). Other people like DMCJoe and Rob Grady (the man is like back
logged with work too!) ALWAYS take the time to answer questions from
people. I wanted to ask D1 if they had a part that no other vendor
had in stock and if they did I was going to order it. We all don't
have time in our busy schedule, like DMCJoe who travels around making
house calls and repairs finds time to answer questions on this very
mailing list. Even Rob who works on cars day in and day out, let
alone designing great replacement parts for our cars makes the time
to talk to us "do-it-yourselfers". That's called taking care of their
CUSTOMERS. Even if that person dosen't buy something they asked them
about, they are sure to return to that vendor/service provider and
purchase something else because they were helpful and didn't turn
them away because they didn't give them their VIN numbers or
something stupid like that. When I posted that question about what
the deal was, it was because I have never met a vendor who acted like
that before, I was not putting them down or "bashing" them, I just
wanted to know if was ME who was a fault. I for one faithfully buy my
parts from Rob and will continue to do so because if I have a
question, he is always sure to take the time to answer it or meet
with me at his shop to show me. And it isn't sour grapes...just
baffling to me. I am a "do-it-yourselfer" and and don't consider
anyone else who is a "do-it-yourselfer" on this list to be a free
loader just because they ask the Pro's questions on something they
love and want to be a part of. Sure it's easy to drop off your car to
them and have it repaired, but it's another thing to say with pride
that "you did it".

I hope this does not become a thread and that it can end here so that
we can go on with just plain "question/answer" postings.

Thank you.

That's it for now. This thread comes up from time to time, the only
reason I let it go this far was that there were a couple of positive
posts that I let thru in the interest of hearing from both sides.
There is plenty already in the archives.

Not interested in another long flame trail. In fact the last two postings hoped that each was the end of the thread. You were.

Subject: Fuse Box replacement

Hi folks,
When I bought my DeLorean I knew it would need some TLC.  As I'm not
a mechanic I realized all too soon that the TLC whimper from my car would
soon cry out HELP ME!  In this post I want to talk about my fusebox.  Ok, it
once was, but with over half of it melted, rigged, and bypassed I knew I was
in for trouble if I didn't replace it.  I have called many places including
the main suppliers and some folks on this list.  Of those who had it (just
one so far) they were asking over $400.  I thought this to be excessive as
my car will never be Concours condition.  I just want to drive it, enjoy it,
and have fun!  So what were my options?
Well, after some research I found a 9X2 fuse box from J.C. Whitney
for under $20 US that will fit rather nicely near where the old one should
have been.  It allows easy access and testing and is flat enough to mount on
the bottom board and even run a cooling fan if I'm inclined (has anyone done
this?)  The wire leads attach from the side of the block instead of
underneath so any problems will also be readily visible.  I'm going to have
it wired in professionally so there's no chance of mistake or worse.  I
might not have bought the part from a DeLorean service supplier but you can
bet I'll have one tackle this job.  Mine is a fire hazard right now so I had
to act.  For those of you in the same boat who don't plan to show their car
as original this is a very neat and cost effective solution.  I do have
access to a digital camera and I'd be happy to take some pictures and send
them to anyone who'd like to see.

Hope this can help someone in need,
Matthew

Subject: Project Delorean Site Updated

Sorry it took so long but I finally got around to scanning in my original
pics.  I've added a bunch of new photos including a current one of the
"Barage" (taken today), lots of stuff showing the original condition of #2650
when I got her, More disassembly shots, the "face-ectomy", and even a PRV6
fuel system I bet you've never seen!  So please check out the site.
