I actually bought another glove box lid at the show to have JZD sign. I have
a grey interior and had him sign in black permanent marker. This way I
wouldn't damage the original one and can easily switch it back. I think DMC
Houston sold alot of glove box lids that day for just that reason :-)

You are correct about the Ds trans computer.
I compared its design to that of the the ZF4.Bosch computer. I really like the
Ds design because of its simplicity.
It is most likely that the voltage comparitors are failing.
The problem though is converting to an Eprom of PLC controller. You still need
an input signal and some logic to control when to shift. On later computers
this in programmed into memory.
The after market computers now available are about $1000. 00. still way too
expensive compared to a $400 D computer unless you are looking at lifetime
costs.
The question is whether isolating the chips in the car would make them live
longer. Or are voltage spikes killing them.
I know on my transmission, we have had voltage spike fry the pressure
modulating circuit twice. We had to building an isolating circuit to protect
the computer.

Subject: cooling problem!
hi everyone.. today i replace 3 of my coolent hoses
around the engine. I replaced the hose going to the
coolent bottle, the hose going into the water pump and
the hose going out of the pump. Now when i took off
the old ones coolent came rushing out. I assume it was
not all of it. I put the hoses back on and filled the
coolent bottle to the max line, the coolent bottle
didnt drain into the hoses very much it just filled
the bottle and sat. I turned on the car and let it
run for a while.. my temperature started to raise and
no fans kicking on, also the level in the bottle did
not lower. So if i let it run it would eventually
overheat. What am i doing wrong? Helpppp!

Subject: Facia Bolt Replacement
Hi,
First of all "Happy 4th of July" to the DML. I am replacing all but one of
my bottom facia bolts on the rear facia assembly. After getting 8 replacement
stud bolts from P.J. Grady I now have the challenge of making them all a
permanent part of the facia assembly. I tried a Super Glue epoxy adhesive but
it didn't do the job. Today I have redone one stud with J.B. Weld. I think
this product will work but would like to verify that with any others out
there who have done this. If you have found a product you know will work
would you please respond back. I want to make sure I get the best solution
possible to this sticky problem. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
In taking my front yellow side markers apart to find out why they quit
working I found rusted and wet sockets. Both sockets had water trapped in
them which made using them again impossible. I have gone to several auto
parts stores to replace them but no luck. I would like to avoid redoing the
whole wire harness. Has anybody out there replaced just the sockets and
bulbs. Your input would be appreciated.

Hello all,
I noticed a nice feature on a Lancia when attending a carshow the other day.
When you used the horn, the high-beams flashed together with the horn for a
second.
Now, I think this would be a nice feature to have on my DeLorean. Is there
an easy (and reversible) modification that will allow you to flash the high
beams simultaneously with using the horn?

Fellow DML'ers,
Since the thread on Batteries is alive right now, I thought I would take this
opportunity to tell you of a new product coming soon to a Wal-Mart near you.
It is called the EverStart Maxx. It is a 900 cca battery, with the best
warranty in the industry. I got to see it at our winter convention. You
will recognize it in a bright yellow casing, and it comes in our (Delorean)
size! The second they are available, I am getting one, and I'll give
everyone an update. They should be out just prior to the fall season.

In reply to your comments regarding 'Metal Mickey'. Besides possibly being
the nick name of that particular worker there was a comedy series on British
and probably Irish television aswell at the time. I was only very young
when watching the half-hour comedy programme about a robot that was living
with a family. The robot was humourous, very SILVER and had a similar
profile to the robot in THE FORBIDDEN PLANET. The robot and the programme
both shared the same name..........Metal Mickey.
Other popular programmes and events at that time will also have found their
way to being immortalised on the 'unseen' areas on many of the DMC-12's out
there. Many of the cars have never been taken apart since leaving the
factory. It really does make you think what really does lurk out there on
the inside of your panels...........
Something to think about.

Haven't taken off my fenders yet to check for "cave paintings" yet.
But on thing that I have noticed is on the doors. When Removing my
headinliners for a cleaning, someone wrote "METAL MICK" in block
letters, along with various employee #'s, the VIN #, plus a couple of
dates & times. I've seen pictures of other cars with their passenger
headliners off, and it says the same thing! Either "METAL MICK" in
big block letters, or "Metal Mickey" in handwriting. Does "mick"
refer to the car beeing Irish, or was "Metal Mickey" an overactive
employee who inspected the doors and got a little carried away in the
process? Ideas? Employee records?

Just call DMC Houston. They have them in stock. I just replaced mine some
months ago. Actually, it was only one socket which was defective but I
decided to change all of them since the others were on their road to h...
The replacements are very nice, however they are somewhat larger in the back
than the originals, and I had problems when I tightened up the screws...the
end of the sockets got squeezed against the glassfibre, remember that its in
the ends the wiring is attached... so I had to loosen the screws a tiny
little bit in order to make the lights function as they are supposed to do
(read: in order to get power to the lights). However, I do recommend the new
sockets, just don't tighten up to hard ;)

Did you remember to connect the wires to the temp sensor that is inside
the water return line that runs along the side of the drivers side part of
the engine compartment? That controls the cooling fans. You will see a
black/orange wire and a green wire. The sensor is on the underside of the
cooling pipe. Hope that helps.

Stian,
Why go through all the trouble of doing a modification? Since the horn
activator and the flasher for the high beams is on the same switch, just pull
back on the lever when using the horn to activate the high beam flasher.

Cliff,
you got to get yourself a 10mm deep-well socket and let the air out of
the air bleed valve, located at the top of the thermostat housing... its
the water outlet to the radiator. If an air pocket builds up there, water
doesn't flow. Thus your radiator never gets hot, nor the temp. sensor on
the drivers side water pipe, above the cat.
let the air out... so the water will flow.

I went with the Optima. It's more expensive, but sounds like it should last
for quite some time. I don't drive my D that often, so this seemed to make
the most sense for my situation. Auto parts stores don't sell them. You'll
have to go to a battery specialty store. It cost $136.00.

Hi all,
I'm in need of carpeting to fit the passenger side floor. It appears the
prior owner had a battery problem that caused acid to eat the floor carpet.
He cleverly pieced in another partial carpet so that when the seat was fully
back and the mat was in place all looked fine. The carpet is a light gray in
color. My "D" is a Jan 82 model. If you have a parts "D" or are replacing
your old carpet please let me have a shot at buying the passenger side floor

Dear Cliff,
You have to bleed the air out of the cooling system. Air trapped in the
system can cause damage to the engine. The bleed screw is on the top of
thermostat housing. There are several methods to bleed the air out of the
cooling system. According to the DeLorean World Technical Index (1996), the
procedures are covered in DeLorean World Vol. 4 # 1, Vol. 6, # 3 & Vol. 9 # 3.

Subject: Melted fuses
Gang,
I upgraded my electrical relays from 25 to 40 Amps today. After I finished
I thought I would look at my fuses to make sure they were all functional. To
my surprise I had three melted fuses. One was completly devoid of any plastic
fuse coving. All that was left in the fuse holder was the inner metal
components and the fuse link was not blown. Just a hunk of metal in a melted
fuse holder. The other two fuses (one being the AC fuse) were partially
melted both at the fuse and the holder. I was able to get these two out with
much difficuty and replace the fuses. Can the fuse holder be replaced and how
are the wires coming from underneath the fuse holed attached? Can they just
be pull out and reattached to a new fuse holder? Your valued input would be
greatly appreciated.

Cliff,
You have air trapped in the system. The easiest way to illiminate this
problem is to make the cooling system bleed itself and once you do this, you
won't have to worry about bleeding the system again. Its real easy to do,
and all you need is some hose, a T-fitting, and 4 small hose clamps. First
off, take out the bleed screw (located in the thermostat housing) then cut
the square end off of the back of the screw (the back end that is inserted
into the thermostat housing) so it will be hollow. Re-insert the bleed
screw and take a piece of hose and attach it with a hose clamp over the end
of the bleed screw that sticks out of the thermostat housing. (Make sure
you get it tight) Then take the hose and run it to the filler neck of the
coolant bottle. There is a small hose going to the filler bottle;
disconnect this hose and place a small piece of hose onto the filler bottle
and attach the right end of the T to the small hose. Reconnect the other
end of the hose that was on the filler bottle to the left end of the T.
Now, connect the hose running from the bleed screw to the center of the T.
That should solve you problem. If you have any questions, feel free to

first of all, how much does a new delco alternator cost? the deluxe top of
the line one, not the basic model, if there is one.
