Subject: blue relay
Hello,
I was looking at my relays and the blue one, the first one at the
bottom left, Seems to have crispy melted wires attached to it. The blue
plastic is also melted. There are two fused wires but I think the relay
is missing. I think the manual said that this is the fan fail module.
It seems that I have a fire hazard on hand. What should I do, replace
the whole relay? When replaced, how could I avoid any further melting
and fire!

Do you refer to the coil only or to the ignition unit AND the coil ?

The MSD coil is about the same as any other coil. Maybe a little hotter
spark (higher voltage), but essentially the same.
The multi spark stuff requires that you use the full MSD ignition system.
They make an add-on that will work with the factory ignition IIRC. Full
details are on their web site.

We installed an Addco rear sway bar on the 97™ DeLorean. We drove the V-8
powered car before and after installation. The rear sway bar definitely
improved the handling. We had considered stiffer rear springs but that would
have made the ride more harsh. One of the srong points of the D is its great
ride. We did not want to sacrifice this with stiffer springs.

I have looked into the dash Plaques and can make them its just a money thing.
With giving away T-shirts and pins there is not much left for other
giveaways. In the future if there ever is sufficient funds left over I would
indeed look to put out dash plaques.
The dash plaques are easy to make.
As you saw I ended up putting out a cheese tray on Friday and donuts and
coffee and juice on Sunday as funds become available but a bit late for dash
plaques.
One note
For those of you that did not get doughnuts on Sunday, the Holiday inn only
gave me two trays. I ordered 6. The refund went to buy soft drinks on the
Goodtime III.
I am off on vacation for two weeks so I willsee you all when I get back
NO COMPUTER so I will have peace of mind LOL

Actually, I may still have beaten you, as I drove from Houston by way of
Dallas and clocked 1507 miles door to door, and I think that would have
beaten an Austin-Cleveland run. But the comment does cause me to raise a
point. IMO, our meets should be about the CARS and their DRIVERS. Last
fall, I drove to an event in an unnamed Southern state, only to be beaten
out by someone who had FLOWN in from one location and had their car
TRAILERED in from another. I take great pride in having and maintaining a
fresh looking but high mileage car, and found it abit peeve provoking to
find the award to be about AIRLINE TICKETS and TRAILERS. Comments anyone?
I just have to pick on Gus a bit, since, because of him, I now have the
SECOND fastest, normally aspirated PRV DeLorean in the world (that I'm aware
of). BTW, I got to drive Gus's car the other day in Houston (just more
"proof of concept", you understand), and LOVED the way it ran! I had driven
it before without the headers installed, and was impressed with the
difference they made. That baby just wants to run! I'm afraid that "drag
racer" Gus is going to find it a "ticket magnet". Keep us posted, Gus

I stopped to pay my insurance today and shut my car off, went inside
for about 10 minutes and when I came back out my car wouldn't start. It turned
over but would never fire. I did this 3 time until finally when I turned the key it
wouldn't even turn over and none of the gauges would even move. The turn signals
wouldn't come on the dash and the buzzer wouldn't work. I tried my power windows
and they both worked and my engine light worked also. I thought it was a fuse so
I started checking them and couldn't find any that were blown so I stuck the key
back in and it fired right up like normal. Anyone know Why in the world would it have
done that? How to prevent it from doing it again? I'm not sure what to think of it.
Maybe just a fuse was loose or something, I don't know. Any thoughts anyone?

I need a little help in solving a problem with the DeLorean limited
edition. If you are

Please do not
use the DML.
As every one must now know I have had a serious e-mail server problem
seated in the process of one server being purchased by another, by another
, who had no Idea about administering a user based provider. As a result my
personnel and business e-mail has ben terrible at best. As a result a good
deal of both in-coming and out-going e-mail just vanished into the server,
much of which was apparently Limited Edition communications.
The bottom line is that about 20 original edition reservations were never
executed, and now that the edition is all but sold out these original
reservation holders have no chance of becoming owners.
Now I could just make some more editions, but that I feel would not be in
keeping with the Limited edition of 110, and while no one has been short
changed in money and none of the DML members or I were at fault it seams
unfair that these folks can not get their editions.
One solution might be to create a special edition for these original
reservation holders only. This would be in addition to the 6 remaining un
owned editions. (3 stainless & 3 Gold)
But to do this I feel that the existing owners should agree, because in
doing so will dilute the edition by the new number of additional kits. It
also begs the question of more than one edition per owner?
and finally if such an extension were to become a reality, it would only be
issued after every single existing owner had received his or her edition.
Because this whole project was exclusively for DML members and because I
have agreed to allow J.E's edition to be auctioned off on e-bay with
proceeds to go to the DML, I think it is proper to both post on the DML and
ask for direct DML replies.
If you would like to (vote?) or comment on this issue please do it direct
to me. I will not reply however I will post a final decision in a week or so.

BTW: I am shipping the few remaining kits on an individual bases as they
are completed, and Ken M. will be adding a few new edition pictures to the
DMC site shortly.
Ken and I will be doing a Kit assembly demo on-line at the DMC site later
this summer.

inside Los Angeles city limits may be fined $500 - and/or serve 30 days in
county jail.

The fuel sender is held in by a threaded retaining ring.
You can remove the sender without disconnecting the
wires.

There is a multi-pin connector (sometimes hidden under the fiberglass body)
that leads to the sender. Unplug the connector prior to removing the sender
from the fuel (petrol) tank.
CAUTION: WORKING IN AND AROUND THE FUEL (PETROL) TANK POSES A RISK OF FIRE
AND OR EXPLOSION.

Sean, I don't own a fanzilla but as I understand it , It only staggers the
fans coming on. The most likely thing that keeps the fans from coming on
could be:
#1. Switch in water pipe, Lower left hand in lower motor compartment.
Jumper the wires and see if the fans come on, If they do then switch is
most likley bad.
#2. Check relays, circut breakers and fuses also.

After breaking the seal & tearing apart the Idle Speed Regulator, I
discovered what the cause of the motor failure was. The motor had not
seized in the sense that it had locked up permanently, but was stuck
in place. At the end of the spindle shaft down in the chamber, there
is a metal piece on the end that rotates around. At the bottom of
this piece is a metal rod that sticks down. On the bottom of the
chamber itself is a nitch that takes up a quarter of the space. What
had happened was the entire center assembly slid down, and the rod on
the end had slipped into the nitch. When power was applied the
spindle would turn as normal, but would then stop as soon as the rod
hit the end of the nitch. Now that I know the cause, my original
question remains, but I have a new one; Does the Idle Speed Regulator
Motor pump air into the engine, or does it limit the amount of air
that goes into the engine to create an "ideal" idle (the same sense
that the LAMBDA system works)? Right now I have the motor back in
place with the chamber about ¾ of the way open, and the engine is
idling at 1500 rpms. I'll try working with it to see about getting
the idle down to at least 900. Either way, the unit is destoyed so
I'll need another.

Congratulations, you have discovered the highest failure rate component in
the DeLorean. The blue Fan Fail module has a 99% failure rate and is most
responsible for overheated engines. The problem became so serious that the
factory initiated the Fan Fail Modification which involved by-passing the
trouble prone module by removing the module and installing a link wire
assembly.
You have two options; you can purchase a fan fail modification kit for under
$40 or go with the Fanzilla a high tech cooling fan management
microprocessor price at $219.50.
DO NOT continue to drive your DeLorean if the module show signs of melting.
