Has anyone come up with a circuit to cut the battery easily so that the
battery doesn't drain at times of longer non usuage of the car. Thanks.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the question. Yes we do see some duplicates on the list. While
I have not included the information, there is a limitation of one kit per
reservation, and as a matter of fairness I will only ship one per
reservation.
The list is the product of one of our resident programmers who created a
special sorting program which scans the mail every day and ear marks any
request which is added to the end of the list.
Later I manually browse the list, remove duplicates and with in reason
resort the list based on request. By example the president of the BTTF
fan club asked for reservation 088. This put him lower on the list to get
him the collection edition he wanted but also pushed another reservation
holder to a lower number.
As I mentioned in the information to each reservation holder in the next
30 days there will be a bit of resorting and culling, based on the first
come (e-mail date) first service basis.
Currently we have accepted 89 stainless reservations, we have not issued
any of the (5)-24Kt Gold reservations at this time.
Thanks for your question

That was the Isdera Imperator, if I remember correctly. It is featured in
a book called "Dream Cars" (jeez, HOW many books have that title?) that I
have on my shelf at home. I don't think it went into production at all.
May have even been a one-off like the A-M Bulldog.

DeLorean Motor Company in Houston (and possibly others) sell a "smart"
cutoff witch which senses voltage level and cuts the battery when it gets
to a certain level. This way the battery will never go so low that the
car cannot be started.

What Bruce is referring too , I believe, is a car first developed by a
Porsche customizing outfit called Buckman Brothers in Germany. The car
was first called CW311 after the Mercedes gullwing C111. They only built
a few. This was around 1980. A few years later the car resurfaced under
a new name but never got produced.

I sent out an invitation a few days ago to join the TN cars on our way to
Cinn.(June 12-14) I have discussed the idea with James and would like to
set up a way that we can hook up, not only for the image of the CARS,
going down the road together, but also for the fact that there is safety
(i.e. breakdowns) in numbers. Whether or not your route will take you
anywhere in the vicinty of Nashville, TN, please email me and we will add
this information to the newsletter web site at:
http://www.dmcnews.com/caravan.html
Periodically we will also post the pertinent info to the DeLorean Mailing
List.
James has offered to set up this space on the dmcnews web page to help
get the information out to the convoyers. Also I would be willing to help
coordinate any other convoy as long as I have the route, time planning on
being in specfic area, and name and email of driver. We can hopefully, be
able to set up a few convoys that can and will establish a special
rememberance for our fellow non -DMC drivers. Imagine seeing several
DMC's in a row going down the road. It will help promote our hobby and
give a few people a sight that they will remember!!!!!
With the mpg of our rides I would think that we could go from Nashville
to Louville,KY and take a break eat and gas up. (Can you see us taking
over a gas station with doors and trunk hoods all open open?) I'm just
throwing this out there to see if there is any interest, if so let me
know and we will get it up and running.

Dan,
Your right about the spelling. I looked up some old articles out of
AUTOMOTIVE NEWS from mid-1987. John DeLorean was involved with a company
called The Louisiana Motor Company Inc. Initially he was said to be a
consultant involved in nogotiating with Govenor Edwin Edwards and
officials
from the city of Monroe about building an assembly plant there. By late
June of '87 the German publication DIE WELT was saying that John was
planning a venture in West Germany to produce the Isdera in Louisiana.
None
of it ever amounted to anything but the one Isdera built was pretty nice
to
look at. It was to sell for about $140,000 with an annual production of 75
to 100 cars.

For those of you who are still lingering over the thought of another
DeLorean,
you may want to pic up this magazine, if you can still find it. On page
22 of
the January 1998 edition of Practical Classics Magazine, there is an
article,
with picture, on the DeLorean Legal Dispute over in England, that
appearantly,
just came to a close after 15 years. It also speaks of the D2, and gives
information on it, however, not much more than we have already heared. If

and I
would be happy to send a transcription of the article. (Please don't
respond
to James, that's not what the DML is for.)
And if I may throw in my own two cents here, I have heared from people
close
to JZD, that he IS working on the D2, however, that's not to say that it
will
be called a DeLorean, nor if it will even get financial backing.

There are a few company that manufacture and sells a "battery buddy/
battery
saver". The unit by those names or what ever it is called is working on
sensitizing an electrical drop from the battery. In doing so, it will
prevent
any further drop by cutting off the battery from the vehicle's electrical
draw
when the vehicle is not being used. This cut off point is at the right
level
to supply the electrical energy needed to for the starter to start up the
vehicle. No more dead battery (providing your battery, still holds a
charge,
if not replace battery too). Unit are available from Stephen Wynn

$40. to
$50. US.

Hi Kayo,
Your number is now 099.
To all:
The first mass list mail had some problems, the sorting program was
supposed to alphabetize the list, remove all second or duplicate fields,
then resort back to the original order. Some here along the line the
program spit out a list with duplicates removed but in alphabetical
order. This is why some of you with low numbers got high numbers and visa
versa. I am correcting the problem and reposting the message as an
attachment. Our mail program and the Internet apparently did not send to
all list members. If you think you are on the list and did not get a
direct e-mail with attachments, your are one of the bounced. I am
resending the current list with corrections we hope will get to everyone.
Please accept my apologies for any confusion, every one should be back
where they were reservation number wise, or within a unit or two. Several
reservation holders have requested specific numbers, if the number is
un-used, no problem. if it's some one else, you are out of Luck as of to
day.
Right now I can only guarantee 100 kits plus the Prototypes, the 5 Gold
editions and three reserved for DMC clubs and one "Teen" edition with a
fixed "Teen level" price.
James (Mr. DML) and I are negotiating a way of using the list to do
several "limited Edition" jobs that need care and feeding. James will
make an appropriate post soon.
The List is full as of 3PM this afternoon.
There are no more open reservations at this time, if I discover any
additional duplications, the older or later duplicate listing will be
removed and everyone will move up a reservation number, except for those
few specific requested numbers. Each Certificate will also have an
embossed corporate seal, to prevent forgery or release abuse. The closed
list will be posted once a month on the DML for open public review. We
may also post a trade listing (which would be separate from any thing
e'Luminaire) would do.
>From this point on any one wishing a Limited edition DeLorean Model Kit
may request a stand by number (+101). The company I have set up to
produce the models and to be responsible for all associated aspects of
producing this Limited Edition Delorean Model will issue the "Reservation
Certificates", accept payment when the time comes and ship the finished
Kits, will keep track of all the reservations including the "Waiting
list". If you are on this "waiting List" and a reservation is not
accepted or at the time of Kit issue fails to execute the reservation in
the required 30 days, that reservation will be canceled and the next
person on the waiting list will enter the list at the same reservation
number, not the end of the list. and will be issued a "second Issue
Reservation". The cost for the Kits will not increase once it is set in
March 98. If you wonder what drives this price? it's the cost of parts
and materials +05%.
Just to keep the playing field level so to speak, I want to make it clear
that any one who receives a reservation certificate, (free to reservation
holder) has the right to trade or sell it to any one the holder wishes,
for any price desired. This means that if you consider the limited
edition an investment you are free to buy, sell or trade it like any
other property. At this time the projected kit cost has reached about
$100 for the stainless version. A final Kit cost projection will be
issued on March 1, 1998 with Kit release 30 to 60 days later.
There are several ways to take advantage of the Collection that will not
be in any way under the control of e'Luminaire.
1. The obvious buying and selling of the Kits.
2. The buying and selling of the reservation certificates, which are
numbered and protected by the issuer (e'Luminaire). for the right to buy
the kits.
3. The buying and selling of 24Kt Gold conversion Certificates (total 25)
4. The buying and selling of "custom License plate" certificates (total
50)
5. charging for assembling the kits (bear in mind the kits require
assembly and finishing) for a kit owner. The better the assembly
the more value it will have.
Thanks!

Actually there were two. Both old Mercedes prototype designs from the
late seventies. One was a hard-top and the other was a convertible. They
both were on display here in Miami about 10 years ago with the designer
from Mercedes who was trying to get investors.

Some cars were sold that way. Although, they didn't come from the factory
that way, many dealers would paint the cars just to be different or just
to try and sell the things because not everyone found the stainless
all that attractive. This is where you find the people selling cars now
claiming that they are "the original red, white, etc... painted cars".
I feel it should be considered criminal to paint the cars but thats just
my opinion. I have seen a black one and a green one that look really
nice. Just goes to show that even if the stainless character is covered
up,
the design still speaks for itself. If your looking to buy a car, and
your come
across one of those people that say have the "original red car", a fun
thing to
do is have them look in the owners manual and find the section where it
says to
use "Gasoline or mineral spirits" to clean the car. That usually quiets
them down a
bit !

Hi John,
When I bought my car, it had a brand new set of Goodyear Eagle GTR's on
it.
P205/60R14s on the front and P245/60R15s on the rear. Because it was my
first
experience with a 'D', I thought it was "normal" for the car to dance and
quiver down the road, and to rub in the wheel wells everytime I tried to
turn
sharply.
After some rather hairy experiences, I sought guidence at DeLorean1. Ed
recommended that I go back to the spec. sized tires and try Yokohamas.
Grudgingly, I took his advice and it was like I had bought a different
car.
It stuck, and the steering became smooth and responsive, like a real
sports
car. Remember that Lotus did the suspension and I believe that they
tuned it
for optium preformance with the size tire that they specified. It broke
my
heart to take a set of brand new tires off of the car, but it turned out
to
be one of the best decisions that I've made re: my "D".
My car is lowered to the original factory specs, My personal experience,
for
what its worth, don't put anything on your car other than original sized
tires. Also, I'm very happy with Yokohama AVS's, and its the first time
I've
tried Japanese tires.
BTW if you, or anybody else want the Goodyears, pay for the freight and
I'll
send them to you. They have about 2000 miles on them. Good luck, Joe

My DeLorean was painted Red by the dealer who originally sold it in

has a severe case of acne. The paint is extremely thick, nearly as thick
as
a credit card. I am considering removing all the paint but in that it was
a
class A paint job (all moldings, headliner, trim pieces removed before
painting) it will be nearly impossible to get it all off. On the other
hand
it will nearly all need to come off before it can be repainted. Remember
these are 17 year old paint jobs on a material that didn't like paint to

My car is lowered and I ran 245/50/15's on the rear for a couple of years.
They actually lower the final drive ratio about 6% and improve
acceleration
a bit. The problem is finding a full set of tires in the sizes you're
looking for. I ran Goodyear Gator Backs on the rear with Z rated
195/60/14'
Rikens on the front. The Gator Backs are as noisy as snow tires but the
combination worked quite well. I think Dunlop has 195/55/14's and
245/50/15's in the same design. I'm using the Yokohama AVS Intermediates
now and love them. Speaking of final drive ratios, Lotus Turbo Esprits
from
1988 on used the same transmission as the DeLorean but with a 3:88 final
drive instead of the 3:44 in the DeLorean. Roughly plotting the
performance
curve compairing the DeLorean with each final drive sure looks like the
3:88 would improve the performance by more than a little.
