reply:

Hi Scott,

I had the same problem when I started trying various waxes. First you
have
to have the stainless oil and grease free, dry bear super clean, and you
need to have worked the burnishing patterns so that the fine thin
scratches
in the surface of the stainless are as straight as possible.
You need to find a "very hard" Carnauba Paste wax for the base coat. (I
use "Eagle-1-One") When you apply this  "under coat" of hard wax you must
use a very damp sponge or terry-cloth rag. When you apply the paste wax
use
as little as possible on the applicator, apply (for example) as follows.
Stand in front of the D, place the damp terry-cloth rag with very small
amount of paste wax on the hood at the front and push back until you get
to
the windshield in a single stroke, then pull back along the same path, the
stainless will take on a slight "blue" tint, repeat this same application
method a second time but move over the width of your application song or
rag. Now with a clean Terry-cloth (ruff side) buff out the wax you just
applied. Do not let the paste wax dry or form a haze. This is how you
prevent residue build up. Under no circumstances glob on the wax or apply
or polish in circular motion. Like polishing leather, you have to remove
most of what you put on. So to avoid the build up, you use as little hard
wax as possible and always rub with the grain.
The hard wax will polish to a very nice shine, but you can get even more
by next using a soft wax like Turtle plus. This is applied in the same way
using the same method, but when you are finished you can use a very soft
cloth like an old t-shirt to buff up the shine using circular motion, just
as long as you finish up by going with the grain.

So far I have found that even the heaviest down pour of rain leave beaded
water droplets that a wipe off with a towel will take care of, with out
any
water staining. You will still see finger marks, but just a quick rubbadub
dubb removes them, with no polish, or any cleaner.

I will admit that the wax approach takes all day and lots of elbow
grease.

I went to my local small-town locksmith and he made me keys from a volvo
blank, no problemo.  If you want to know the exact reference number, email
me direct.

I have sort of the same problem that I have been reading about lately on
the DML.  I just bought my D and have had quite the experience attempting
to get it operational.  It used to idle but then die when the acclerator
was pressed, like somebody else wrote about.  So I changed the plugs,
distributor, and injectors.  Now the car won't even start, like another
wrote about.  I checked all of the fuses and connections to the computer.
Gas is not making it to the distributor.  The fuel pump won't work even
when voltage is applied directly from the battery.  The fuel pump, lines,
filter, and tank are all new.  What should I look at next?  Does anybody
have the part number for the DMC do-it-yourself exorcism kit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check under your left front fender.  There is a bundle of wire that runs
to the fuel pump.  Check to see if the insulation has cracked.  If so,
you may have a loose or no connection.

I guess property on the highway in VA is pretty cheap!  Here in NJ 3
acres on a 4 lane highway would go for more than a DeLorean!

        You are right Bruce, but...>wink

You can have the Volvo Aluminium oil pan cut and arc welded to fit the
frame. You would have to add two motor mounts and make an adaptor ring for
the alpine Trans......I don't see the advantage though, if I were going to
do an engine job I think I would look for mill with the highest BHP/lbs
ratio I could find that matched the total all up weight of the existing D
PWR engine.souping up the existing PV6 would be a better bet in my view.

In spite of a won't start problem I have at the moment, I must say that
so
far when it comes to curvy hill climbing and country roads, my D is the
equal to any 911 or vett, I can either take them or hug their tail pipe
with ease, about the only place I see any huge BHP advantage would be at
standing start deals, even some commute cars leave me standing  until we
hit about 45, then the D's long gears really show their stuff.

Can any one tell me on a horse power basis what the need for doubling the
BHP does for the D?

When I bought my D, it came with two keys- one door, one ignition.  They
are
the factory originals, with the molded plastic top and place for a small
flashlight built in.  I thought they were too large to carry day to day,
so I
found a locksmith who was able to me me a pair of dupes.  The ignition
blank
is a Taylor X29 (intended for Volvo), and the door blank is an Ilco WB3
X169
(intended for I don't know what).  Both of these are just ordinary blanks
that
the locksmith had laying around, but they were not listed in any manual-
he had
to compare my originals to his wall of blanks and pick out what looked
right.
Hope this helps....

Subject: DML: Parts Inventory.

I recently called Straub Motors, in Keyport NJ to ask about their DMC
parts inventory.

I spoke with the parts manager, Bob Defransisco (732-264-4000).

TO be honest, he was not all that friendy, and seemed uninterested in
being bothered, but I was able to get a list of what he had in stock.
He is asking $12,000.00 for the entire inventory.

I have typed the inventory in, and gotten current prices from the
DMCHOUSTON web site (Awsome site at http://www.usadmc.com/).

The retail value of the the entire inventory is worth a little less than
12K based on the prices from DMCHOUSTON.  With that, I dont think they
are all that serious about selling.  I am guessing they already got
their tax deduction on the loss, and realy dont care.

Either way, I put the inventory up at
http://remus.rutgers.edu/~mxl/dmc/straubdmc.pdf so you can check it out
and see if you are interested.  There does not seem to be any rare stuff
on the inventory, and I have already questioned them about other DMC
stuff, such as tools, signs, neckties, brochures, pamphlets.... All
gone.  (This is what I really wanted anyway!)

Let me know if anyone does anything with it.

Josh, My new fuel pump quit working on time.  It would not run even when
I used my battery charger to power it directly.

I then switched the charger to the Start Mode, lots of amps available,
that did the trick.  The pump must of had something in it causing a
jam.  It has worked ever since (1+ years).

Hook a volt meter to the fuel pump leads and make sure you get power to
the pump.  If there is no power, check the Inertia switch.  You can jump
the switch temporarly.

Good luck, some of these problems defy the logic of mere mortals like
us.

If you double the BHP, and use it, you probably will tear up the drive
train, maybe even spin the tires.  I read that the max HP the 5 speed
can handle is 200BHP.  Myself, I think that the car accelerates
adequately.  I know that if it had any more power I probably would have
killed myself with this car a long time ago.

If the fuel pump will not work when you apply 12 volts directly to the
pump
leads, then you have a bad pump.  It takes 1-2 amps to run.  The white is
the
positive, if I remember right.  But the pump has the positive and negative
terminals marked.  If it does not run, or if it does not pump 3/4 gallion
in a
minute, then it is bad.   Jordan Gary vin. 0794

I surely appreciate the input with the problem, perhaps I can have the
company rebuild my engine if they will and just wait. With the altering

what
happens and appreciate anyones comments. Kind of discouraging after
spending the bucks. Will see if I can get a refund.

Keep any info at all coming.

Discouraged but love my Delorean and will get it road hopping again.

If I had a known very good volvo engine I would take the pan and other
things off my DMC engine and put them on the Volvo engine to make it work.
However, for about another week of waiting on the machine shop you could
have a like new rebuilt engine.  If you needed any parts to fix the DMC
engine, then you should be able to take them off the volvo engine. I have
found the machine show bill for rebuilding to be as low as $500  and as
much as $1500, plus the shop labor for the mechanic.  However you, you
mechanic, and the machine shop can divide up the labor  or removing,
dismantling and assembly, any number of ways.  Mechanics often charge
$600-
$1200 to replace the engine and send it off to the machine shop.  A
completely rebuilt engine that rebuilds both the bottom and the top of the
engine can vary widely in price.  I hope this helps some.

Hi Josh,

If you have a new fuel pump, it should run if both terminals are hooked
up
to your battery, if you are just using one hot wire from the battery, you
won't get the fuel pump for several reasons, check back threw the advise
to
me, and do what we did. We started with the fuel pump pick up, then the
pickup hose, power, filter, inertia switch (we think this is the
problem).

If you want DMC logo tops on your keys send them to me and I will do them
ASAP.
