Subject: TOBY-TAB price point
Hello List - It has been brought to my attention that I managed to
forget to list the specific price for the second batch in my last
post. I am sorry for the confusion and frustration that probably
caused. The good news is that I was able to maintain the original
price, in spite of the fact that we will have a smaller quantity of
bolts this time. Normally, prices of fasteners are directly related
to order quantity. Therefore, the price per kit will remain at $66,
and will include the TOBY-TAB's, self-locking nuts, a pair of "free
running" nuts for double-nut installations (for those so inclined),
washers, revised and updated instructions, and domestic shipping.
International shipping charges are quite reasonable, but are extra.
Personal checks, money orders, etc. can be made out to Specialty
Automotive, and Darryl does have PayPal capability for those who
prefer that method. I will post a confirming message when we receive
sufficient prepayments to officially launch the order with the
manufacturer. I will be able to confirm shipping dates at that time
as well. Thank you all for your support.

George Barris was not involved in making the other 5 Delorean Time
Machines for movies 2 and 3.
Subsequent to the movies, Universal Studios has had other cars done for
their Theme parks. The lastest one was built about 5 years ago. It was
the one that had a 2 foot white stack for MR. Fusion rather than a Krups
coffee grinder. (unfortunately, that was the one copied for the Sun
Star model. :-( )
Bob Boyce who was the first president of the Back to the Future Club was
involved with Universal Studios during this time. (His name can be seen
on one of the scientist's doors on the ride). According to him to
different custom car makers worked on the 5 cars for movies 2 and 3
because of the close production schedule. Numerous other customs movie
prop shops have worked on other "ride" cars.
None of these cars were made by George Barris either.
It is really a shame that other people are trying to claim the glory of
the original car makers.

Yay! I'm all done replacing the waterpump and I started the car!
Yay! other than a jump start it started and ran better than ever!
Yay! it's leaking coolant like... something that leaks alot of
coolant.

So, stupid me, accidentally pinched an o-ring on the internal
waterpipe to the block without realizing... and reassembled the
whole dang thing. Well I got it all back disassembled... again.
Call me a dumb@$$...
it is safe/worthwhile to put a thin stripe of RTV sealant (silicone)
around the o-ring... or some liquid gasket, to help hold the ring in
place while putting on the water-pipe, and help seal it later? Can
that stuff take the kind of temperatures I'm sure exist down in that
hell between the intake mani. and block?

Subject: MOVING INTERSTATE
Just to advise the Aussie 'D' owners of my relocation form New South Wales
(NSW) to Queensland (QLD) to take effect 26 Feb. The NSW DeLorean
population will decrease from five to four, while the QLD DeLorean
population will increase from two to three!
Perhaps someone has an answer this small problem .... while driving my
DeLorean to QLD this week, I encountered some problems towards the end of
the 1100 km journey when the engine lost power. Seemed it was running on
about three cylinders. Up until then, the car ran beautifully.
I stopped and checked the leads etc but couldn't find the problem, but the
car started and idled ok. After travelling a further few km, it started to
play-up again and with another 200 ks to go and in the dark of night, I was
a little worried that I may get stranded. Every 10 k or so, I had to stop
for a few minutes with the engine off, then the car would run well for a
short time before starting to break-down again.
I finally got to my destination and in the process had considerable time to
think about it all. I'm hoping that it's the plug leads breaking down or
the plugs and nothing more serious. I noticed that as the ignition
played-up, the tacho needle would become slightly erratic, so I'm hoping
that there is not a more serious problem there somewhere.
I flew back to Sydney the following morning and therefore won't get a
chance to further investigate the problem until the end of Feb.

Does anyone know if and when a new AC Panel will be manufactured?
The lights behind the panel heat it up causing the AC decal to wrinkle.
Yes, I know you can buy new decals for it, but I would be seriously interested in a completely new plastic panel where the decal is outlined/printed in the plastic (as on every other car) I think of it everytime I drive my other car - a Volvo - which has a very nice panel with no sticker/decal on it!
I can't imagine the cost being so high if produced in the Far East...
Anyone have any connections?

Some people use some silicon grease or RTV to hold o-rings in place. I
would go easy with the RTV, you would not want a glob of it trying to go
through your radiator.

They make silicone especially for cooling systems. Can't remember
brand I use, but is blue color.
Tried to bump up my O rings with silicone because mating surfaces had
some pitting. Was collosal pain in rear to keep O rings in seats as
pipe lowered in place (remember -- you've also got forward movement as
it slides into hose). Silicone kept grabbing O rings and pulling them
out. Eventually cleaned most of it off. Moral of story -- a little
dab'll do ya...
Did you replace heater core takeoff behind (under) distributor? If you
do: MARK THE ROTOR. Was end of long day and I didn't feel like going
back into house to get a marker. Tried to be a big man and remember
position. Of course got it a tooth off. Tear everything back off...

Yes, you can use silicone on "O" rings. Just use "sensor safe", it
should say so the tube. And make sure that the surfaces you are
sealing are clean and smooth. You really should test the coolant
system with pressure before putting the intake manifold back on. That
way if you have any problems under there you can correct then without
undoing a lot of work.

The event begins Friday, May 9th with check-in and registration packet
pickup at the Sofitel Hotel, the host hotel for the event.

of whom you may have only spoken to on the phone or conversed with via

Saturday morning gives the attendees their first real chance to view
firsthand the largest supply of new and replacement DeLorean parts in the
world. We'll throw open the doors to our 40,000 square foot warehouse,
service/restoration department and showroom with tours of the facility,
technical seminars by the leading experts in all facets of DeLorean service
and repair.
Also on Saturday will be the only Millennium concours to be held in 2003.
Additionally, a "People's Choice" event will also be held to accommodate
everyone who wants to participate. Lunch will be available on site as part
of the registration package price.
A special guest speaker with a unique perspective on the original DeLorean
Motor Company, and his time as an executive with the company has been
planned for the Saturday night Dinner and Awards Ceremony. More details and
his identity will be announced in the coming weeks.
A raffle and silent auction will also be held, featuring donations from
DeLorean vendors and others, with all proceeds benefiting the M.D. Andersen
Children's Cancer Center.
Sunday morning will begin with an easy gimmick rally that will end up at
Houston Raceway Park, where the attendees will have sole access to the 1/4
mile dragstrip and have the opportunity to participate in a bracket
tournament against other DeLorean owners. This is your chance to test your
car and reaction times against others and get real results via time slip
from a computer read of vehicle time performance at 60 feet, 330 feet, 1000
feet and 1/4 mile. Nitrous, turbos, superchargers, swaps, Stage I engines -
if it passes the tech inspection, you can run on the dragstrip with us.
The full registration cost per person is $79.95 for everything listed above.
As an added bonus, each registered attendee will automatically be added to
the "Budget Restoration Program" or BRP from DeLorean Motor Company.
