You mentioned getting to the fuel pump from undernieth the car. Well,
you cant to that, but I believe the front main harness is accessible
and would also cut power to the pump if you can unplug it. <snip>
But what I'm really curious about is how you locked the driver's door
to begin with. To my knoledge, (and experimenting with several
different Ds), the door locks do not easily lock when the doors are
open. And I have heard that if you do manage to lock them, the
latches can jamb very easily if you close the door in this state.
This is my own theory as to why the car has a "central" power locking
system instead of a standard power system (with buttons).
Curious you know what you know!

Assuming there's no leaks in the hose, you might be able to choke the
engine by blocking the air intake & the drainage tube below. Other
then that, opened up the louvers and engine compartment by braking
the latch would be the quickest in an emergency. If you ever do have
to do this again, grounding the left wire on the ignition coil would
be alot safer to kill the engine. <snip>

I have been watching this discussion for several days now and I have heard all the different points that people have been making about sending a DeLorean to the scrapyard. I just wanted to remind people that one man's trash is another man's treasure. There aren't going to be anymore DeLoreans (possibly) and I don't see why anyone would even consider sending a D or any other classic car to the scrapyard. If you can't restore it, then someone else can. Please don't let this or any other D get destroyed!

Turns out that the door isn't 'locked' - the rear latch comes undone when
I pull on the handle, but the front one is jammed. I've had problems with
the drivers door in the past. A hard bump while driving would cause it to
come part way undone and the buzzer to sound. After I got new tires
(softer ride) and adjusted the doors a bit, this stopped.
But what happened last night did happen to me a month ago - I had to climb
out the passenger's door and for some reason use the key to lock and then
unlock the driver's door.
Any ideas out there on just what happened?
Oh, and by the way - for all the lurkers out there, the car has been a
blast to own and drive. Fewer problems than most of the cars I've owned -
including a 1998 car.

Before I start putting leather conditioner on my vinyl, can someone
please tell me which parts of the interior are real leather? I know
it sounds silly, but I'm not sure about the door side 'fabric' and
the center column side 'fabric' in particular. I am using the
Meguiars line of vinyl and leather cleaners and conditioners. I've
read some good things about them.

Please help!!
As some of you might remember I was involved in an accident a few months
ago. My left front fender was crushed and is not repairable. I got a new
fender now but the problem is that my D has a wide dealer stripe. I can't
remove the stripe from the old fender and I don't want to remove it from the
whole car. So, here's my question to you: does anyone have a dealer stripe
for the left front fender ONLY? I don't need the whole thing (mainly because
they are just way too expensive), just for one fender.

I mentioned this awhile back on the DML, maybe some new folks can shed a
light on this one...
I'd like to be able to have an interior light in my DeLorean which dims.
I've seen this function on BMWs, you open the door and the light gradually
comes on, you exit the car, walk away and the light dims till its off. Its a
very cool effect, and I'd like to have this function in my DeLorean.
Any suggestions/ideas on how to make this work? I would guess that you can
keep the two interior lights yet somehow incorporate a gizmo which will make
the interior lights dim on/off.

Subject: Courtesy Light Switches
The switches I am proposing are Proximity Switches. Proximity switches
have no moving parts and switch by Sensing metal close to it. The
sensing range of these switches is 4mm. So when you close the door of
the DeLorean, the door doesn't even touch the switch to activate. They
are completely solid state.
I have posted pictures of my installation in the vault in the Sensors
folder.

Not to promote any one product but in light of all the help and free advice
Joe gives to our list here, I had to say this product is one of the best
little items I ever purchased for my DeLorean. Comes in so handy at car
shows when you want to leave the doors up and not have the courtesy lights
on. Easier then unplugging the lights. I also use it when I am not using
the D for a while, to be sure the lights dont come on due to a loose contact,
and run down the battery. Yes I am sure you could make a similar item
yourselves, but when people like Dmc Joe and others give so much of their
time, I am happy to support the DeLorean Parts Suppliers whenever possible.
