I think it is wrong to sell stolen auto parts. If people knew how much
front-left fenders were worth, they'd probably disappear right off the cars.
(Then again...most people think that my car cost $100,000.)
I would venture to guess that most auto parts theft is by
a) idiot vandals looking to pawn a radio, or
b) professional thieves.
In the a) case, that is always a potential problem, although I think most
grill emblems would be taken as a souvenir rather than a source of income.
And the pros know they can make more money parting out an Accord than a
Delorean.
I am always concerned about careless gawkers or thoughtless vandals when I
leave my D in public, but I doubt either is impacted by the potential bounty
on the parts.

The emblem is not necessarily stolen; it could be from a wreck, from a
parts car, from a pile of junk he found in his garage, whatever. As for
the perceived value of the item, I doubt that the realization that a grill
emblem is worth $75 is going to change much about your neighbor unless he
is a criminal already. After all, he could make more money stealing
stereos out of Hondas, but he doesn't...

Yes.. My first response when I saw that was "I wonder where whose
Delerean now doesn't have it's emblem?" I mean, where does someone
find just an emblem to sell? How many parts on a
locked/parked Delorean are easily removable like that? Mighty
suspicious.

When I toured the warehouse in Columbus the first time they had lots of

I removed the door pin on the passenger side of my D because the door was not
aligned properly from the day it was built. Sure enough the nut dropped into
the hole in the fiberglass side. I had to remove the inside cover over the
speaker. and cut a 3 inch hole into the fiberglass to get my hand in to find
the nut and hold it in place for the door peg. Afterwards. I drill an 8/32
hole and threaded it so I could put a long small screw in the plate to hold it
if I ever needed to remove the peg again.
As it turned out the housing for the door peg was set 1/4 off when molding the
fiberglass at the factory. I had to cut the adjustment plate to give more
movement in order for the door to lock properly. Initially it would only
single latch and not double latch. This took many hours to correctly diagnosis
and realign.

First I did check the archives, ( great article in tech notes)lots of

someone give me a step by step instruction on how to do this? I have all the

Subject: John DeLorean at the Celveland DeLorean Car Show
Hi
a number of you have asked what is John DeLoreans schedule for the car show.
Well details are still being worked out but we have talked about John doing a
question and answer session on Friday at the Crawford Museum. He will also
be at the car show on Saturday and the Dinner Saturday Evening where he may
decide to talk again or just mingle with all of you.
At any point this is the first DeLorean Event John will be attending and with
him will be his daughter Kathryn and let me tell you she is going to be a
show in herself. I have enjoyed my conversations with her and she is looking
forward to the event as well.
Mark and Charles Delorean also plan to attend but Charles will be depending
on health.
A reminder
Preregistration deadline is May 15th (that is postmarked by May 15th) at that
time I will not be able to guarentee the Goodtime III will be available. I
have 30 extra seats so it will be a first come first serve basis.
Free T-shirt offer expires on this date also.
Shirts will be $8.00 at the door or for extras.
A $5.00 late fee per registration will apply from May 16th on so please
register early.
Again thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy the things I have brought
to this show.
It should be one of the finest collections of DeLoreans ever
Please help me spread the word. I have found many people in the last few day
that had no idea the show was taking place including the owner of the Johnny
Carson Car. Hopefully he can come and we add another one to the list but I
only have the DML and the listing inthe DeLorean world and local letters. so
I ask you to please help me network out and give everyone the chance to
attend.
Curtis where are you??????????? (still trying)

Why are some facia's much darker than others? Most I've seen are
only slighlty darker than the stainless steal color, and others are
much darker, and yet others are almost black. Are the latter two
types bad or custom re-paint jobs?

We also have had some strange light behavior. Besides the fact that
sometimes the light dims out when you close the door and sometimes it just
shuts off, we also have something weirder. Sometimes when the doors are shut
AND locked, the cockpit light will come on by itself while we're driving.
The way I turn if off is by turning on and off the light over the storage
compartment which makes them both go off. Strange but true (but D's are
always full of little interesting things anyway...) :)

P.S. I suppose I should note that we haven't changed anything in our

Subject: Non-starting problems, fuel pressure related?
Hola everyone!
Well i have had my delorean (10854) for alittle under
a month now and have run into my first problem :)
My D' wont start, i put the key in and it turns over
but wont start
I have been in talks with DMC joe lately over the
issue but thought I would get the collectives advice.
I have been threw all the checks in and around the
fuel pump, i have rotated it, jumped it, remounted
it.. etc, No problems there.. gets power and sounds to
be pumping just fine.
The next step which i performed today was going back
to the engine and taking off the air filter and
pressing down on the round thing (fuel accumlator?) to
see if there was pressure. From what i felt there was
none, i tried this with the pump on and off, when it
was on i got some farting type noises coming from that
round thing, but still no pressure :)
Now backing up in history alittle, the day it happened
here are the events:
On sunday of last weekend the car was running fine
except for a slight gas smell coming into the car and
an occasional wierd noise coming from the fuel pump
area.
I adjusted the fuel pump by rotating it slighting
thinking there might be a kink in the hoses causing
the noises, i tightened the clamp around the boot to
stop what alittle gas that was coming from that area
(hence the gas smell in cabin)
I then go to the gas station, fill up to the TOP and
go for some serious spirited cruzing around the
country, i was driving for about 1 hour and then came
home, parked.. came back to the car 30 mins later and
the car wouldnt turn over.
Ok..lets discuss :)

ps... anyone with some intrested in D's in the area
and/or mechanical inclination.. lets get together!

To stop yourself from getting stranded, if you turn the key and the engine

start, stop after a couple seconds, wait a couple minutes and try again.
This will

ok, just was out fooling around again and i made the

have pressure, so in summary, i have power to the fuel
pump, it runs, no kinks in the hoses, i have pressure
in that "round thing" but the car wont start, it
cranks but wont start. UGgg :) Thanks for the help

Subject: door locks, mirrors and windows
Hello List,
Ever since I purchased my 81 DeLorean the power mirrors, door locks and
power windows have not worked. I can not figure out what is wrong. I never
even hear a little movement from any of these items.
LOCKS-some say my lock solenoids are fried but that cant be correct
because I just put on a new door with everything in it and the solenoid is
new,it is not getting any power to burn it out. when I touch the brown wires
of the intertia switch to ground the "lock doors" light comes on and I get a
click from the relay. someone said I should get a lockzilla relay but this
one is doing its job, right? so why change it when you need $5500 in other
stuff. obviously neither solenoid is getting power to it. does anyone know
what I should look for?
MIRRORS-neither work and the switches are hooked up correctly. Again,
the mirror in the passenger door is new. obviously no power is getting to
this item either. what should I look for?
WINDOWS-I do not have switches so I can not even test them. can I use a
jumper wire on the switch hook-up somehow? if so, how do I do it exactly?
The only thing that works in either of the doors are the door lights on
the drivers side door. Everything else doesnt:( I thought that the
connections in the t panel might be the problem but I looked at them and they
are clean and match up properly. The previous owner claims everything worked
before it sat. I thought mice but I traced the door harnesses back and they
are fine. oh, and yes they fuses are fine. any ideas?
Thanks in advance
