While I myself do not have the "first hand" expierience for the
wiring, I can tell you that yes, it is possible. We have this feature
on our car. The doors are working fine, and the solenoids are fine as
well. We are also using the original door lock module with no
problems. But, if I upgrade later on, the system is also compatible
with lockzilla, so there shouldn't be a problem there. The alarm
system on our DeLorean controls the standard anti-theft features, the
central door locking system, AND the automatic door opening feature.
The keychain remote operates the entire system, plus everything is
run thru the single box (alarm). Aside from arm/disarm, the remote is
capible of opening either both, or the driver/passenger door only. If
I wish to later on, I could also add on things like open/close the
toll both windows, etc... If the system were to be installed into a
car w/a automatic transmission, remote engine start would also be
possible. I can't remember right now what the name of the system is
that has been installed, but I'll post it later. Don Steger @
DeLorean Motor Center in Garden Grove did the installation, so if you
need further details, he can be reached @ (714) 554-6794. That's were
our car is right now, so we'll be in Los Angeles this Saturday to
bring her home!

The Northern California DeLorean Motor Club (NCDMC) will be having its first
gathering of the year this coming Sunday:

The El Torito is located in the Willows Shopping Center off of Willow Pass
Road at Highway 680. You can almost see it from the freeway on the east side
of the highway. It's the first left turn off the freeway, then down into the
shopping center and left back down to the restaurant. I'll make a link on
our club website to a map from Mapquest.com. Mapquest provides very accurate
maps with distance and turn instructions right on the web.
We'll be discussing activities for the club, such as road trips to scenic
locations, overnighters to the coast and Lake Tahoe, trips to the wine
country and car shows in our area plus club participation in the Cleveland
cars show in June and the DOA Expo in November. E-mail me if you can come.
I'll need to let the restaurant know about how many people will be coming
(you're encouraged to bring your S.O. too, the brunch was great last year).
I'll make the reservation to seat us at 9:30 when the restaurant opens, so
please come a little early so we can get seated in time. I'll be there by
9AM. Come on out even if you can't bring your car.
We'll start with breakfast/brunch and then get our cars lined up for a photo
shoot. If enough people attend we'll caravan to one of the local scenic
locations.

Did you blow the tire? or damage the wheel?
I do this quickly, because if you need to replace the rack you may want
to file a insurance claim.

There are a few updates that you could check for, but last of updates on
a car would not be a strong argument as to not buy a DeLorean. The VIN
on the car helps in determining if the updates were installed before
delivery or not. However, if the front reinforcement braces are not
installed, I would be reluctant to drive the car to far. A good pothole
could take the front end out.
The best way to check the fuel tank/hoses is to pull the pump out. This
is not a hard job, it is located under the spare tire.
Frame rust on a Delorean is similar to other cars. This would be the
number #1 show stopper in buying a DeLorean. If the car was stored
inside (as you say), then you should be OK. If not, jack the car up and
check the frame carefully. There are a number of specific areas to
check, including the front crush zone. Use your finger to push on the
frame because it is common for this area to rust from the inside out.
As far as what you will need to replace right away, it really depends on
the car.

The Michelin tires are not original, so I would venture to say that this
car has more than 4,000 miles on it. You can look at other wear items
to verify the true mileage on the car. Look at the wear on the seats,
the pedals, the shifter, and such...
There is a high failure rate of the spedo angle drive on the DeLorean,
so most (if not all) DeLorean odometers are incorrect. In addition, you
say the spedo has been changed. You trust that this person took the new
spedo apart to reset the odometer to match the old one? I doubt it!
As far as the conversion goes, is this chevy supercharged? does it have
any significant performance modifications? If not, then you have to
question the motivation of the conversion. If this motor only has 2K on
it and the car has a total of 4K on it, are we to believe that someone
went though the expense and effort to remove a motor with 2K to replace
it with a chevy motor with a minimal performance improvement for the
heck of it? I would assume the motor that was in it was damaged and
this was a inexpensive way to get the car running again.
Disregarding my above comments about WHY the conversion was done, buying
a modified car like this is a BIG risk. Unless the conversion was done
by a reputable mechanic, I would keep away from this car. I have seen
some really bad conversions (on non-deloreans) that were just waiting
for a sucker. If you are seriously considering this car I would have 3
or more trusted mechanics look it over.
Based on the information you have given, I would base the price on this
car as if it were a parts or project car.
Just my opinion!

I cannot speak for James or their English partners on this project...but as
it's my car that will be used as the test vehicle for the development work I
can give some info. Last week I drove my car ( AX1 1698) up into the
Derbyshire hills, near Ashbourne to meet with a gentleman ( who better
remain nameless) who is undoubtedly one Europe's leading experts on car
suspension and handling. A look around his office at some of his very high
profile clients/ corporations and motor manufactures ( who also insist on
anonymity) that he deals with, confirmed this. He was also worked on the
team of Lotus engineers that did the development work on our beloved De
Loreans, spending many months in Belfast and driving test cars around
Derbyshire.So he knows the car very well already!
Basically he is developing a new spring and damper set up, complete with
optional rear ant-roll bar. The original springs were set to the "American"
bumper ride height, as well as being made rather doubtful steel, that can
cause uneven "settling". Suspension dampers have come a long way in the last
20 years, these people manufacture their own dampers from scratch! Designing
them specifically for that car.
The gentlemen concerned treated me to 2 hour detailed description of
suspension in general, and De Lorean's in particular...my brain ached at the
end of it! He said that the rear anti-roll bar should have been fitted
inittialy...but some "high ups" at Lotus were dead set against it!
I will be lending them my car again, at the end of this month, for a 2 week
period for them to "play with". More information as and when it becomes
available.

I use a Canon XL1 digital camcorder, and it is very good. The picture quality is fine. The Lens system is a bit naf, servo assisted, but once you get used to it, it's fine. Use a Digital Betacam if you want truly great quality (in video), or if you can afford it 35mm Film. Now that's the baby!

Back in 1987 I ordered a"New and Improved Doorlock Control Unit" kit
made by Group Omega Design,Inc. for $60. It never got assembled and
installed (looks like it'd take an Electronics Tech). Now that I'm
looking at the paperwork and instructions I see that a factory (meaning
GOD Inc.) built unit was offered also for $115. Anyone know of or have
one installed? If this thing is worth while I want to make use of it (
there were other early lock fixes sold that didn't work).

eGroups' new format gives a much better group calendar than the old one
did. It allows more details for events further in the future.
I just added the Cleveland Show to June's calendar and the DOA Expo
in Vegas to November's calendar. As with the Vault (now called "Files")
and the Polls, all DML members should benefit from using the Calendar
feature to keep track of events. I encourage everyone to check it out
when you have the opportunity.
