I have been on the website quite frequently in the past couple of days,
and I have specifically visited the address

but have not been able to contact anyone who is asking in my price
range. Unfortunaltely, my price range is about $6000 or lower, but I am
just a poor college student. My goal was to find one I could work on
over the summer with my Dad. A real bonding-type activity.
Unfortunately, I have not had any response from anybody who has a
pre-fixed-up DMC. So if there is anybody out there who may be able to
help, please e-mail me.

D.J.,
This is a common problem and is caused by the fact that the bulb sockets,
fasteners and circuit board are made from different metals. This
electrical
incompatibly causes the lamps to become intermittent. There are some
temporary fixes but you best bet is to purchase the high quality updated
circuit boards from P.J. Grady. They are A-1 quality, we have been
installing them for years and highly recommend them.
Ask for item 111488G, they are $ 109.50 a pair and are worth every penny.

Lisa,
I don't understand what your description of soft spots means but
generally a master cylinder that has a bad seal can be identified pretty
easily. Make sure you have the car running and place your foot on the
brake
peddle. If you have a seal "by pass" the peddle will slowly depress to
the
floor. If you take your foot off the brake and pump it will return to a
good peddle and slowly go to the floor again. If the first time you step
on
the brakes they appear soft but increase in stiffness as you pump the
brakes
it generally means there is air trapped in the brake lines. Since your
car
has sat for sometime either or both of these symptoms may be present. The
bleeding process may take sometime to ensure that all four wheels are free
from air. Also, make sure that when you bleed the brakes the engine is
running so the power brakes are operational. I have found that is the
only
way to properly bleed the brakes on my "D". Hope this helps.

The hood change was first than the antenna, there are no factory VIN

just about to travel through time. My local Toys R Us has 6 of the 8

Thanks Ron. Actually my friend and I took the master cylinder off over the
weekend and the seals were fine but the lining of the cylinder was
severely
pitted all along the bottom. I'm looking for a new master cylinder now
(it is
definitely beyond rebuilding). Anyone know of another cylinder beside the
Girling/Lucas that will work? Sadly, I've had to park the *D* in the
garage
for now. It's too dangerous to drive. (though I can at least still
worship it
while it sits)

Well, I have two electrical problems that are unresolved; 1) I've had to
bypass my neutral safety switch so that I can start my car, and 2) my
reverse lights don't work. Well, It's easy to see the problem.. My
auto-tranny multifunction switch isn't working. I've traced the wires and
bypassed the switch (at the computer access block), and it checks out...
So
my question is: I've gone through three different tranny computers, and
all
three have had this problem... It appears as though the switch is part of
the govenor assembly, but it's looking more like it's something inside the
tranny itself.. Can anyone help me out?
This gave me a little chuckle... I was seaching the back issues only to
find
me posting this same problem (although I hadn't traced it then..).. That
was
over a year ago! I guess I'm slacking off on finding a solution...

DeLorean stock number is 109040 and is available from most DeLorean parts

Hello Lisa,
The fastest and best way to get the master cylinder is to call Rob Grady
he can over nite you every thing you need for the repair. His price is as
good as any one else. I had a similar problem, and had my D on the street
in three days. When you get the parts in give me a call or e-mail and I
will run over the correct bleeding procedure.

I just had a thought. I also own a Triumph and had the same problem
with pitting of the master cylinder. I sent the master to "Apple
Hydraulics" and they re-sleeved it with stainless steel. If that
interests
you I could get you the address, phone # etc.. I don't know if they are
set
up to do a "D" but it is worth a phone call.

Here is some information concerning your search. A DeLorean that is in
really bad shape but running would sell for at least 11K dollars. If it is
not running than its value is in its parts. As an example the DeLorean
frame is no longer available therefore there value is now in the $ 6,000
to
$ 9,000 range. Left front fenders are hard to find and are priced as high
as $ 4,000. Occasionally there are DeLoreans for sale in your price range
but they would require a substantial investment in time and parts to
become
operational. In rare instances you may find a car that an owner is forced
to sell below market value, you will have to keep your eyes and ears open
to find one. I wish I could give you better news but these are the facts.

Jameel, in the last issue you wrote "I felt bad about what I could have

connection to Rob's web site. I have been looking around to find a place

get my car completely restored. It sounds like PJ GRADY is the place to
go.
I'm trying to find a transporter that can flatbed the car up there. I
live in
Tennessee, does anyone have any suggestions. I'm currently talking with
some
of the auctions up in that area trying to get a reasonable price. I'm
guessing
it's going to be a lot cheaper to go to Rob than to take the car to
Houston or
Calif. Has anyone had the ir "D" restored by Rob? If so what is your
opinion?

I would like to say something about the flatbed or trucking transport..
Make
sure you read all of the fine print.. The reason I flew to Seattle to
pick
up my car is because the transporters saved there butt by not being
responsable for anything that could happen to the car. I remember looking
and looking for some good trucking service and I just could not find
anything.. I think the best thing to do is drive it out there and fly
home!
I know it is far, My Dad and I drove up there and it was a scenic drive.
I
guess it is up to how good your car is right now.. if it is in real bad
shape.. then... don't! :-) I think you should call Rob and ask him what
he
suggests.. I am sure he knows a lot of transport services..

This is my first time on the list, and I'd like to say a
few words about the good guys. As an owner for 15 years,
I've had many experiences with people who've serviced the
DMC, as well as fellow owners. Most of these experiences
have been good, and I value the friendships that have come
out of my DMC, some even in other countries.
Our community needs to support these good guys - these are
the folks that will help you out when they don't make a
dime. Many of these good guys (and gals) are frequent
contributors to this list. I consider the people who create
this list to be among them. Rob Grady, DMC Joe, and Don
Steger are some others that come quickly to my mind.
Let's encourage everyone to honestly share their opinions,
but be focussed on personal experiences. And let's keep them
positive, not negative. The old timers already know who the
rip-off artists are.
It IS important that we give our business to the people
who have dedicated their time to keeping DMCs on the
road. Let's use this forum to recognize them and move on.

In 1997 I sent my 81 to Rob for restoration. I used Allied Vans, at Rob's
suggestion. The car was one of 4 in the enclosed van. They arrived on
time, delivered on time and nary a scratch. BTW, the other three cars in
the van were more expensive than my D. The cost to ship from Colorado to
NYC (1800) miles was $1200, fully insured.
It developed that instead of having my 81 restored, I purchased an 83 from
Rob which he had restored for sale. I made the switch because my 81 was
an
automatic and the 83 was a 5 speed with twin turbos.
The check list that Rob uses to repair, replace, restore all parts of the
car is extremely extensive. You get a copy so that you will know exactly
hwat parts are new, what parts have been refurbished and/or what parts are
the originals. I also got a bumper to bumper warranty.
I personally don't think you can go wrong with Rob's work.

Hi Dave,
Automatic transmissions are fun aren't they. Since you said you have
replaced
several trans computers already makes me wonder what is going on here.
Check
the wiring paths back to the engine compartment. I know my computer wires
were
partially melted where they were clamped to the tranny case. Trace the
wires
and make sure they are tied away from the exhaust pipe. Don't just look,
you
have to run your hand along the wire and feel if there has been any
damage, do
this for both the multifunction switch wire and the computer govenor. The
second thing to check is the shifter linkage adjustment, if this has
moved or
is worn it will give you the problem you discribed. Lastly, if you do
replace
the multifunction switch, keep your mouth closed when you pull the switch
out
the back of the tranny because mine had about a quart of fluid behind it
that
went everywhere.
PS. If you still have your old trans computers that you replaced, there
are
several people on this list that would like to talk to you.

Here in Chicago, right after 21" of snow, we have a car show at Navy
Pier. I finally got to see the car in person. And I also got to talk to
the great guys that built it. What alot of work that was involved. For
you De purists, it might be alittle uncomfortable to see exposed
wiring,custom brackets, neons,giant exhaust vents all mounted on the
outside exterior of this unique auto. But if you seen the work and
creativity that Bob Brandys and his partner put to use on this movie
type replica, you gotta give to them. These guys did their homework and
created something unbelievable! This modfied version has big time
improvments, compared to a stock or restored one. I'm not saying it's
better than stock (although some changes absolutly are)I'm saying for
some tastes, it's more of personal prefrence. Either way if you drive
down the street in a Time Machine or a drop dead stock De, you're gonna
turn some heads! If you get the chance to see this car, do it, you won't
be dissapointed. And the guys are great to talk to! Hey Bob....I think
you might want to change your name to ...I dunno....um..maybe...DOC?

I have been told that painted cars sell for $5,000 when they are running
fine. I have been told that at least two in the Dallas area sold like
that a
year or two ago. Maybe a good looking painted car would suite some with
little money. For the people who want to fix up cars thenselves, they
need to
plan on spending 2-3 thousand $ on new seats, headliners, fuel injection

Hooked up my new inertia switch a month ago and now after reading a little
about it I found that it is not working correctly. When I pull the plunger
out, my D will run. When I push the plunger in the engine will stop. Plus

tried for the first time to lock the doors while driving down the road and
found that this will kill the engine also.
I know that there was a connector that the three wires were in so that one
could not make the connections wrong, but mine is gone and all I have are
the three wires. I believe that I wired it wrong and this may have caused
the problem. Could someone out there tell me the order in which the wires
connect into the inertia switch. The wires are colored
(brown)(black)(black-purple)

There are several items that can cause this problem. in order to help you
locate the problem I will need additional information. Has any work been
done to the car previous to this condition? BTW, an easier and safer way
to
shut the car down is to pull fuse # 7.

The January meeting of the DeLorean Club of Ohio was postponed due to
poor weather. We have rescheduled it for Saturday, February 27. The
location is Roscoe Village in Coshocton, Ohio. The 4:00 meeting
includes dinner at the Roscoe Village Inn. Many of us are also going to
spend the night at the Inn. Although it is unusual for Ohio in
wintertime, several of us are planning to get our DeLoreans out of
storage for this event.

Mike,
The inertia switch also known as an impact switch which is a safety device
installed in all vehicles that contain a electrically powered fuel system.
It operates the same as a "tilt" switch in a pin ball machine. The fuel
pump electrical supply is routed through this switch. When the switch
detects an impact, as would happen in a collision, it disconnects power to
the fuel pump. In the event of a fire, fuel would not continue to pump
into the fire. In the DeLorean there is an additional feature that
automatically unlocks the doors.

I have been using ACE Automotive in Berkeley California for two years.
They have De Lorean manuals and contacts with all the major De Lorean
parts
providers. I have never had any problem with any service rendered by them
and can recommend them. They are easy to find and easy freeway access. Ask

This weekend, I am tearing down all of my brakes and replacing the =
fluid, caliper piston seals, brake lines (with SS braided), and cross =
drilled rotors. When I got the hub off, I noticed (it had not occurred =
to me before that it would be this way) that the wheel bearings are =
sealed bearings.
My question: is there any lubrication that I need to provide for these =
bearings?

three years,and had started and shut off ok before,right now it has been

four years since I have started it(1994)at the time I had just put in a

fuel pump and right now that fuel pump is inoperative,I am not planning to
start it at this moment in time,but once the warm weather comes around,I
would
like to start it.(And be able to shut it off).Also I have noticed that if
you
let a Delorean sit unstarted,the fuel pump stops working,do I have to
remove
all the gas from the tank each time I store the car ,so as not to seize
up the
fuel pump?

I live in Vacaville (between Sac & SF) I am taking my D to Don at Delorean
Motor Center down in Garden Grove (I guess you can say I'm going to
Disneyland, it's close by). It's about a 7 hour drive but if you are
considering major work it is well worth it. Don is a factory trained
Delorean mechanic who is very sharp and quite personable to. Their prices
are competative as well so like I said if you are considering major work
