Ours idles at 800-900 on good days.  Somedays it likes to idle a little
faster
- - 1100-1200.

Whatever RPM it is turning when the ignition key is turned off, the guage
stays at that speed.  The fact that it reads 2000 would indicate an
abnormal
idle speed, if the engine was shut down at idle.

Yes we found some grey plastic cup holders that have an inverted "U" hook
that can be inserted into the space between the window and the door. The
holder cost $3.95 each at a local discount store. The depth of the holder
is just right for a medium Coffee to go. You can also slip the hoof
between
the trim as far forward as it goes so that the cup rest in front of and
above all the door controls.

Some times the inexpensive items are the best.

JZD's Limited Edition Kit #001

Thanks to every one who sent me e-mail with offers  of 5 and 6
times the release price for the JZD limited Edition 24K Gold=Kit.

Right now I am not sure just how to deal with this very special kit.
Please hold your offers to buy this kit for the moment.  There are so
many people waiting in line who have been promised the next available
place on the active list I feel that they should be considered, on the
other hand I never expected anyone on  the reserved FREE list would
decline or refuse the Kit set aside for them.

I really need to devote my limited spare time to getting the kits  packed
and shipped first, so I would like to wait for now on deciding what the
disposition of JZD's Kit should be.

Thanks again

My DeLorean Fans up front will not shut off.  >From the moment I turn the

John,

I'd be careful about using cross-reference struts.  I bought a set here
in
the states.  They were the right size but were so stiff that closing the
luggage compartment was difficult to do without BENDING it!  Needless to
say, I removed them and bought a set from one of the DeLorean shops.
It's
worth it.

To everyone asking about the stainless steel letters that you
can buy for 65 dollars and put on the bumper-

There is a cheaper faster way. Use stainless steel tape
and cut out the letters to apply to the bumper. It looks great,
lasts longer and costs less than a dollar per letter. Just an
idea!

Ben,
Why do you feel the need to replace the cat. converter, is it missing? If
you just need to pass emissions and the converter is in place leaning out
the CO should do the trick. If you need a converter you can order one from
one of the DeLorean parts suppliers or from D.E.C. Catalytic Converters at
800 332-4431 ask for model DL 4401.

I thought I'd throw my two cents in here about the DeLorean "silhouette"
(or
"outline"). After the Expo in September, I bought one of these from Don
Steger at DeLorean Motor Centre for about $59. I found out that the car
we're buying already has the silhouette on the rear bumper, so I guess
I'll
just have to keep this one as a souvenir :) (pretty expensive souvenir,
though).

BTW, speaking of the car we're buying, the guy who's looking after it said
that they replaced the fuel pump and the car's running fine now. While I'm
not at liberty to say how much we're paying for the car, the lady at the
bank said we should get the loan in a couple of weeks, which means (if all
goes well) we should have our very own Stainless Steel Wonder sitting in
our
garage around early December!

The

Subject: Re: DML: Stainless steel letters on bumper

Ms. Virginia Hodges,

Your idea of cutting stainless steel tape into letters is tedious and
mostly
likely will turn out sloppy.  You got to get the holes in the letters
"d," the
two "e," "o" and the "a."  Afterwards you have to get the letters to sit
tightly against the inset.  If you wrinkle the letters it will reflect the
light and not look right.  Just too much work.

Incidentally, if you can get it right, you can sell kits of the letters
and
make some money.
I am sure there are buyers out there.

Virginia says in a recent post that she has done this. What's the best
way to get the exact shape and size of the letters? What about cutting
them out? I've read that the $ 65.00 ones are lazer cut, making smooth
strait lines.    Anyone got any ideas? Maybe taking some sort of an

list was a good way to learn everything learnable about the car...

Anyway... I've seen so many pictures of the D that I could draw it with
my eyes closed.  However, I've never seen any good pictures of the
interior of the car.  What does it look like inside?  Driver, passenger,
and center column?  What do the door controls look like?

Also, what advice do you normally give to new D owners?  What questions
should I ask?

Thanx for everything,
Take care,

chargers (made by the same company - Shumacker) that I am thinking of
getting.

The first one is a dual trickle/charger. It has 2, 6 and twelve amp
settings. The two amp is for the trickle charge and the 6 for a full
charge. However, it does not have an automatic cutoff. Does this mean that
I need to manually remove the charger every now end then? or can I leave
it
on continously? Cost $19.95

The second is a 1.5 amp trickle charger only. It has an automatic cutoff
and can be left attached to the battery so all I would have to do is plug
it in. However, if I ever get a flat battery I wouldn't be able to
re-charge the battery. Cost $24.95

Does anyone have any pros and cons on the two different types? By the way
both are for 12 volt batteries.

Thanks
Massimo

Massimo...
It depends why you are using a charger on what type (model) to buy.  If
your battery is dead or low, and you want to hook up a charger to bring
it back, a variable amp one will do fine.   If you are leaving your D
unused for a period of time (month or less) and you want to keep the
battery at top charge, the half amp will do.  HOWEVER, a continuous half
amp flow most probably will cause the battery to loose water, and
therefore is NOT recommended for long term (ie, over Winter) battery
maintenance.

The previous discussions mostly talked about the Battery Tender, which
changes to a MICRO amp flow (much less than a half amp) when the battery
becomes fully charged, which essentially tickles the battery, preventing
plate sulfation while not boiling out water.

Most classic car owners, motorcycle owners and others who leave battery
unattended for several months or longer use a maintainer.  Prior to the
arrival of these maintainers (yes, they are a little more expensive than
the chargers you are looking at), I used a half amp trickle charger, but
had to add water almost monthly to all the batterys.

Hope this helps.

During the tech session at the  Los Angeles Expo 98, Steve Wynnes =
presentation was about electrolytic corrosions inside the engine block =
between the steel cylinder liners and the aluminum block.  He said that =
the trickle chargers would eventualy cause extensive internal damage to =
the engine.

Solutions-
Install a battery disconnect switch.
hunt down the devices that cause a constant drain on the battery and =
correct the problem circuits.
Do not connect the trickle charger to the cars electrical circuit, =
dissconnect the battery and install the charger directly to the battery.

I bought a 1.5 AHr charger with auto shutoff at Walmart for about $20.  =
Install a battery disconnect switch to isolate the battery fromt eh rest =
of the car and connect the charger to the battery.

The best solution is to drive the car on a regular basis, if I drive =
mine every weekend, it seems to stay charged.

Auto-cutoff is the only way to go.
A 1.5 amp will recharge a very low battery, it just takes a day or two.

Just what every DeLorean fan would like for Christmas - the book
Stainless Steel Illusion, by John Lamm. Easily the best book on the
development and history of the car, the book features literally hundreds
of photos of the prototypes, mockups and produciton cars. Photos of JZD,
the factory, the assembly line - just a great book and excellent resource.

This is a nice copy of the book, I got it along with a large memorabilia
collection and don't need another copy. Proceeds of the sale of this book
benefit the DeLorean Mailing List and DMC-News.

I listed this book a few days ago at $225. In order to move it quicker, I
will sell it for $200 in US funds, which includes insured shipping
anywhere on the planet. Please email me directly if you are interested.

Subject: DML: Auto door opener - Brackets

For all those who are interested in installing the automatic door openers
that Darryl kindly provided the instructions for.

I did not wish to drill any holes in the door of the 'D', so I am trying
out some custom made brackets that will install into existing structure,
utalizing holes that are already available. I will receive the brackets on
Monday and will see how the installation goes.

The brackets will be made of high grade aluminum, to minimize the weight
in
the door.

If anyone else is interested in using these custom made brackets let me
know, the more people that are interested the cheaper it will be to get
them made.
