Hi Scott,
I agree that once used no crush copper gasket should be reused, that's
why
I buy them dozen at a time. Onboard spears, some in shop, but in a pinch
you can anneal the copper by heating them over a gas stove and letting
them
cool slowly. Do not cool by dropping in water. After the copper cools
clean
the mating surfaces, you can even polish them if you like. I discover this
trick when grounded in the field with a leaking fuel line. We used a
cigarette liter to soften the crush "O" rings that went from a fuel
control
bypass line on an H21
back to the start accumulator and mixture control. Worked perfect!

Pull your spare tire out of it's home and remove the screws that secure
the
access panel. Pull the panel out and you will find the hose laying between
the left side gray frame section and the black fuel tank.

Ian,
The alternator with the terrible reputation was the French built Ducllier
installed at the factory all the way up to VIN 4539. This unit was unable
to handle the electrical system when under full load. The remaining cars
were fitted with a Motorola 90 amp also distributed by Velo model number
9AR 2938T. Alternators are available from our DeLorean parts dealers.
There
are some other models that will do the job like the Delco 7295-12 which is
used in many GM cars. By the way, if you still have Ducllier start looking
for a replacement.

Due to personal reasons it looks like I may not be able to contimue my
planned project.
1981 Delorean V6 5 Speed to sell complete car ONLY for a parts car or to
restore or whatever!
Condition is ??? (depends on your point of view).
It is missing lefty taillight lens, DMC front center piece and has
driver's
window broken out. The interior is rough and somewhat abused(?). The car
sat in a farmerts field in the desert for about 3 years. The engine has no
spark plugs, cvondition unknown, trans (5 speed) condition unknown, body
seems okay though someone has done some 'refinishing' in spots but now
dents I have noticed.
Still has tires & wheels on it, I assume original.

Passport transportation is a closed truck and I hauled a car from
cincinnati
to Houston (DMC) for $700. It was in a closed truck and it had another
DeLorean in it along with some other neat cars. They toook great care in
handeling it and I was impressed on how well they took care of the cars.

Suddenly the steering column is bouncing around as I drive. It appears
that
the bushing (#101994) has come out of it's home in the pedal box. Does
this
indicate that it needs to be replaced? After %$#!$## with it for 1/2 a
day,
does anyone have any ideas on how to realign the bushing in the hole
without
pulling the whole column? Does pulling the column effect the front
alignment
at all? How much of the electrical stuff in the column has to come out to

Here's some ideas on how to get 160+ smog approved HP in your car..
1 - install a PRV V6 out of a 87 or later Peugeot 505 or a B280F from a
Volvo.
2 - do some simple clean-up of the intake manifold/plenum
3 - add a K&N free-breathing airbox scheme
4 - add a low restriction exhaust using larger cats and pipes
You'll end up with pretty good mileage, off the shelf repair parts, and
low vibration (these engines have counterbalancers).
Ignore the warnings about bad Volvo V6's, that only applies to B27 and B28
motors.
Other mods could take you to 200+ HP

My Delorean only has 16,000 miles on it. Because of the low mileage and
the age of the car, many small problems creep up on you. I know several
people that have D's that have many more miles on them and they seem to
be more reliable. But remember, they to went through the same iritating
problems that I am experiencing now. This car is 17 years old and was
virtualy a hand built car, the assemblers were inexperienced and all of
the bugs had not been worked out. With only 8500 cars built by a new
company, you have to expect less than perfect results. GM/Ford builds
cars by the millions, and have built many millions of cars, and you read
about massive recalls quit frequently. I'm sure that if I drove my car
every day, the problems would occur more quickly, therefore, I would get
the bugs worked out quicker, then the car would be trouble free. If you
are willing to invest the money to transport your D' to one of the few
"Qualified" specialist and had them go through the complete car,
perhapes it would be more reliable for a period of time. The DeLorean
like other cars is only a compilation of mechanical and electrical
parts, and I have yet to be defeated by a mere machine. I truly enjoy
my DeLorean and I share the problems I have with others on the net so
that they may learn from my experiences and share a good laugh in the
way that I present them. You never know, when you might have the same
problem and be 500 miles from the nearest service center.

In reviewing my repair manual, I also suspect the vacuum modulator. When I
purchased the car last year the vacuum line to the modulator was not
attached,leaving me to believe that someone was working on it. I will
check
the vacuum line routing and probably replace it to eliminate a plugged
line in
case something crawled inside while it was hanging loose under the car.
The
manual shows the line tap to read and how to adjust the fluid pressure
and I
will try that. Really looking forward to climbing under the car with the
rear
wheels spinning.:)
In my younger days I experienced vacuum modulator failures by the diaphram
failing and the engine blowing blue smoke. Is this the only failure mode.
I'm
not really sure what this valve is doing, is it just a valve (on/off) or
is it
regulating a pressure? Are there valve seats to wear out? The manual
doesn't
go into any testing procedure for the modulator itself or even replacing
the
unit.
I've tried calling Rob Grady twice now but hes been busy both times.
Business

I have been trying to replace a faulty (leaking) Control Pressure
Regulator on my fuel distributor.The part # in the manual is 102395 an
gives it a name of a frequency valve on page 2/3/0.This part is mounted
on the right side of the engine on the valve covers.The last owner had
removed and reinstalled the hose with a clamp that is leaking a fine
spray of gas in the engine compartment.
I had gone to NAPA to order this part and after 3 days the wrong one
was shipped in.The piece is supposed to be a stock Volvo engine part,but
I am having trouble crossing the Delorean part # over to Volvo.Today I
called a Volvo dealer in Toledo with no luck in changing the part #
over.Dave Bauerle in Radnor did not have the part in stock but was a
great help in giving me a Bosch part # of 0438-170-021.I called NAPA and
a few other parts dealers in Sandusky and did'nt make any head way.
If anyone could cross these numbers over or provide me with a source
,it would be a great help.Thanks to everyone for the help with locating
a baffle system and the other fuel pieces I needed to reinstall my gas
tank.

Don't hold me to this, but ten year ago when I replaced mine I was able to
use a GM one that spun reverse to the normal GM fans. I pulled the unit
and
ran a cross reference. The unit was easy to remove... a few screws and a
power plug under the passenger side if the dash.

Make sure you are asking for the right part. the ( Control Pressure
Regulator) is NOT part of the distributor and is on the LEFT side not
the right facing the engine compartment. The (Primary Pressure
Regulator) is part of the Fuel distributor. And the (Frequency valve)
is on the right valve cover. IF you are needing the Frequency valve,
remove it and the Bosch Part # is on it.

The number one thing to check is THE FRAME,it was made from light
steel,and
was
then epoxy coated,but on early cars they put it on to thick,and it
cracked,causing
moisture to get trapped,and causing the frame to rust.The electrical
system
was typical British, meaning it had it's share of problems,The main
harness
starts at the firewall,goes thruout the vehicle,and stops at the
headlights,meaning it is almost a
one piece wiring harness.Early cars had a weak alternator,window motors
were
weak
MY POINT is get someone who knows Deloreans to check the car before you
buy.

Try the DeLorean Owners Association, there is a section with a check
list that Steve Wynne of DMC Houston put together. There are links to

First off I would like to thank all of the people who helped me out by
answering my questions on alternate fuels (LP, LPG, natural gas,
etc...). I truly do appreciate all of your help and knowlege, thank you
all! I do appologize for being behind a little bit on my reply, (problem
w/my server) so I'm sorry if my message seems a little "out-dated".
Since the last time I wrote, I have just completed my third book
("DeLorean", "Hard Driving", & now "Dream Maker"), so my mind is full of
questions right now. So far I have only been able to find VERY sketchy
details concerning what has happened since JZD's aquital (sp.). So I was
curious if someone out there could help me out and answer a couple of
questions Such as After he show got Canceled, what happend to Christina
Ferare, is she still married to that ABC exec.? Why didn't Roy Nesseth
stop Hoffman & "Valestra", and of course, where are they too?!?
Currently I've started on a couple of things here in Las Vegas. Not only
have I located the dealership where DeLorean's were distributed from,
but I have also located the former Parts Manager as well. Being in
Nevada has also given me a small advantage. As soon as I get the chance,
I am going to investigate "Christine Industries", and find out just
exactly what they were, & where they were... Along with Logan
Manufacturing in Utah as well. One disadvantage is my age, I am 20 years
old, so I don't exactly remember much of the early '80's as you can
probably understand. When I talk with people about DeLorean, DMC, & the
DMC-12, I don't usually have people take me all that seriously, so
please, DON'T shun me, or think that I am joking. When I talk about
things like this, I am serious. So help me out a little, o.k.? One day,
I may be able to do the same for you too! Thanks to everyone all around,

You know, nothing really frosts me like all these folks looking to cut a
corner with a not always correct part. Parts prices for the DeLorean are
generally *less* than comparable cars of its era AND new cars today. I
have seen several cross reference lists floating around, and good luck
finding a reliable one - most that I have seen are either outdated or
just plain inaccurate. There are but a very small handful of parts on the
DeLorean that you cannot get by calling any of the parts/service
facilities. In most cases, their prices will be the same as or even less
than a "might fit" or "close match" cross reference part. Is Billy Bob at
XYZ Auto Parts going to tell you how to fit that Volvo water pump on your
DeLorean (assuming he can pronounce "DeLorean")?
If you nickel and dime the car, it will nickel and dime you! That's the
bottom line.

It's only 77 degrees here at 4:07AM!
There is another side to your comments James, I don't mean that The cross
ref., List are good or even that I have an opinion about using them, I
think however it's worth voicing another thought.
There are many Volvo parts, that do fit and can be used. For the most
part
I get all my repair parts from the major DeLorean suppliers. But when you
are in the middle of a job and have your baby apart and all over the floor
it's real nice on a Saturday afternoon to be able to zip down to the Volvo
shop and get exhaust gaskets. Then you can go for a drive on Sunday. I
don't know about what others do but I found that taking the old part or
gasket with me works best.
With help from all my DML pals I was able to hunt down and fix a problem,
and YES I had the spars on hand but had to get the crush gasket at a Volvo
dealer.
If you are going to vent why not start in on all the I want a CHEEP
DeLorean, say $19.95 it can be just in general ok condition, but no body
damage and well runs good and, and,.........Why doesn't some one list what
it cost to maintain any equivalent sports coupe that is the same age!
Time for a nap!
