I just went through the logic box circuit trying to get my seat belt
light to work.  The seat belt light will not come on until you 'crank'
the engine.  A signal is sent from the ignition switch white/red to the
logic box and to the start ihibite relay #105.  The start inhibit relay
is also connected to your auto/trans module #170.  It may be that the
problem is in the computer and you are getting a signal back to the
logic box via the W/R wire which cause the light timing cycle to start
again.  I performed a test on my car, while the engine was running and
the seat belt light was off, I sent a signal thru the W/R and the light
timing cycle worked.  My car is not an automatic, but I am considering
bying one for my  Wife.

Actually, all new cars are now required to have a vin number on all
major parts, however that did not apply when the D's were manufactured.

Subject: DML: Battery drain and fuse question?

I've been trying to track down a battery drain than renders my battery to
weak
to start after 3-5 days of sitting. I disconnected the positive terminal
and
using a multimeter I measured the current between the battery and the
positive
cable. The car was cold at the time and it read about 30 milliamps with
everything turned off, which doesn't seem like that much to me, but I'm no
expert with electrical stuff. The next thing I did was start pulling
fuses one
at a time to determine what was drawing this current. Part of it (about 15
milliamps) was going through the fuse labeled "Lighter/Clock" and I could
not
find the rest. Are there any circuits that do not go through the main
fuse box
that might be drawing power?

Something else puzzling I ran across while doing this is that my radio
seems to
be connected to the power window fuse. Is this normal? Also, when I
pulled the
"Lighter/Clock" fuse, the radio display dimmed but continued to function.
If
anyone has any insight on this I'd sure appreciate it.

Sean,
My clock draws about 45 milliamps and a couple more for the radio memory
for
a total of almost 50 milliamps.  If your battery is only lasting 3-5 days
either it isn't fully charging or the battery is just weak.  A fully
charged
battery should still start the car after two weeks with no problem.  In
theory the battery should be only half discharged after 40 days.  The
actual
time for a sure start, on my car, is about a month without a charger
hooked
up.  Often I only drive my car once a month so I keep a 1.5 amp charger
on a
timer for an hour and a half a day plugged into the cigar lighter.

The new fuel pump that was installed is working great and is super-quiet.
I'm especially pleased with the life-time warranty my mechanic gave me on

I think the "0 580 254 957 - 390" is the main part number though.

I had a horrendous front-end crash with my "D" & Don Steger (& Don

better-than-before-crash condition. If you can afford to ship your Dad's

Hello everyone!
This is my first time posting to the list, so I hope it goes through.
I am a big fan of these beautiful cars, and hope to someday be able to
own one myself. Until that day, I'm always on the lookout for seeing one
in town, hoping to get a glimpse of one. I've only been this lucky twice.
Last Monday, the 22nd, I saw one on my way back from work at about 7, in
Grand Junction, CO. Is anyone on this list the lucky owner of this D? Or
does anyone know who is? Just curious if it lives in the area or just
passing through... Anyone that can let me know anything about it would be
greatly appreciated.
Does anyone else own a DeLorean that lives near me?  Thank you all!

Subject: DML: Temperature rising on freeway

This is embarassing, the reason the temperature would rise on the
freeway was because I mounted the front license plate in the middle of
the air scoop. When I removed the license plate and took the car up on
the freeway, 150 degrees all the way, no more overheating.

I still can't believe the license plate would block enough air flow to
cause the car to overheat. Unless there is some kind of turbulance
developing here. Anyway I will be looking to buy a new stainless steel
front license plate holder from someone that holds the plate above the
air scoop.

Thanks to all for their suggestions anyway.

Dave, You are so right... it's not the blockage at all, in fact you could
put quite a large object in front of the intake and not block it at all,
if
it were the right shape. A square plate pushed through the air flat side
to
the wind causes the most turbulence possible. Your problem is quite funny
in a sort of serious way. Who would have thought a license plate could
burn
up an engine!
It's great you figured it out....see it can be fun owning a DMC!

Having worked in the auto industry for the past 34 years I think I can
explain why things like the above happened. The frames and running gear
are
assembled prior to decking the body and trim parts. In the DeLorean's case
the doors went down a seperate assembly line. All of these things must
merge at some point and this requires a method of scheduling. Since all
the
DeLoreans were alike, except for the transmissions, if one of the
component
systems, such as the chassis, is pulled off line for repair, they probably
just advanced the next frame forword to the marrige point with the other
components to keep the line moving.

Yikes!! That really stinks.  I can relate to the depression he must be
going through!  I don't think you have to worry about the possibility of
repairing or replacing the delorean.  Both possible options. Your
biggest problem with this is going to be that you are in SA.

Is there someone local to you that you trust to do the repair?  Most of
the parts you will need are still available in the USA.

For purchase, I know PJ Grady has done export, and I am sure the other
DMC repair centers also will do export.

I would suggest that you take some pictures of the wrecked car and send
them to PJ Grady for evaluation.  He MAY (I do not speak for them, or
represent them in any way!) be able to give you a estimate of repair
based on the pictures.  With that information you can decide weather to
repair the car you have, or purchase a new one.  Take in to
consideration what the import/export fees are.

I AM NO EXPERT ON INPORT/EXPORT, but it may be less expensive to repair
your car because if you ship the car here, have it repaired, and send it
back, you may be able to avoid the import/export fees.

Good Luck!
Marc
