last year in May when I registered my DMC for the first time in

it required a current standards smog test before it could be registered

a very clean test. My understanding is that with the turbo, the DMC can

Please note, I posted this once before and did not get a response.
My 1981 has the Grey Leather interior.
I have a scuff mark on the seat and you can see the raw leather.
I tried KIWI "NU-LIFE Color Spray Dye #614 Grey", it is to light.
Has anyone found a grey leather dye that matches the original interior.
Since this has been a one family car since purchased in October 1981, I
know that the interior has not been changed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone-
There is an '81 DMC for sale in my area (that being Northern
Delaware)...if
you're around here, it's parked on Polly Drummond Hill Rd. in the Zingo's
shopping center (in front of Zingo's, near one of the shopping center
entrances). I just got off the phone with the seller...he's asking
$14,000
for it...here's the lowdown as of now:
'81 5spd (w/o gas flap on hood)
new headliners, FanZilla, and new door, hood, and louvre struts from PJ
Grady new SS clutch line 160MPH speedo reading 17,000 miles
This is only the stuff he told me over the phone....there may have been
other stuff done to it, also.
It's a very nice looking car and I hope someone will give it a good home.
Drop me an email (apollo80@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and I will put you in touch
with
the seller.

I've been watching people talk about the Splitfire plugs and thought I'd

alot of people with modified and "normal" cars use them here and recommend
them highly.

Subject: DML: Splitfires & Narrow Air Intake Hose
I've noticed the thread about Splitfires starting to warm up and I wanted
to throw in my opinion before everyone runs out and buys them. Splitfires
promice alot including increased horsepower and mileage. But think of
this: automobile manufacturers spend unbelievable amounts of money
researching ways to increase mileage and horsepower. If it were as simple
as replacing the spark plugs, don't you think they would do that?
Wouldn't
every car come with Splitfires? Don't waste your money on expensive
gimmicks. The Delorean already comes with superb spark plugs. You can't
do much better than Bosch platinum.
On the topic of the narrow flexible air hose running from the engine to
the air intake...I was under the assumption that this was part of the air
evacuation valve on the engine which removes air from the crankcase. The
vacuum produced from the engine sucks out air from the crankcase (which
was
there due mostly to blowby) and recirculates it through the engine. The
removal of this air is crucial to prevent condensation of the air and thus
water formation (which dilutes the oil and causes increased engine wear)
inside the engine.

I have had no problem passing in New Jersey. I was questioned once about
"where are the cat's", I answered "I don't know, this is how I got the
car".... which is true. The Turbo kit was on when I bought the car!
Another time, the DMV inspector called another one over, and he said
"Oh, this is the Turbo model, they never had CAT's". I was not going to
say anything!
The problem I have every year is that I get failed because they claim I
have a leak in my exhaust, because it is so loud. I usually protest at
the end of the inspection line to the supervisor, who takes a closer
look and sees that there is no leak, that's just the way it is.
My turbo kit is a older one, but I had Rob Grady update it 2 years ago,
replacing the O2 sensor, and timing controls. To do this, he had to
install 2 pressure/vacuum switches that I think just bypass the O2
sensor under boost.
I am told this setup is standard with the newer kits, along with a CAT
and Resonator instead of the muffler setup that I have. I passed on
having this modification done because I suspect it would be louder, and
there was a cost involved that I did not think was necessary at the
time.
I think the current Island Turbo Kit is considered "Legal", but you
should check with them or PJ grady.

When I purchased (my now deceased) D in '87, I had it inspected by the
local shop. The proprieter at the time was in the business of
retrofitting D's w/ single and twin turbos. Naturally, he would remove
the stock exhaust (usually from the manifolds back) and replace them
with rear-firing manifolds and free-flowing mufflers. Knowing that
the D has a unique (to the vehicle) exhaust system... I purchased a
couple of low milage (<7K) exhaust system pieces for ~$200 each,
figuring I could use them down the road. I still have a couple of
mufflers and manifold pairs which I no longer need. If anyone is
interested in any of this stuff... please make me an offer.

Hello Matt,
Hows that again? I was under the impression that the line from the oil
filler cap to the air cleaner was the return rout for crank case gasses,
which are from blowby and the natural break down of the oil from heat and
mechanical cracking. Most modern engines get some top end lubrication from
this return of crank case gases and unwanted oil break down products are
burned at the same time. Would you mind going over the condensation part
again, I have never seen or heard of condensation in the Crankcase due to
having an open or closed crank case vent system.
The air intake system consist of two main systems, hot and cold air and a
valve. This is part of the emissions control system. Cold air and air
wormed by the exhaust manifold are mixed by a wax thermostat. The crank
case vent line is not connected to this intake system.
I don't think I understand what you are pointing out?

The air inlet system is on D:07:01 of the workshop manual. It describes
the two
lines as hot air from the exhaust manifold and cold air. A wax
thermostat controls
the temperature calling for hot air only below 59 F and cold air only
above 77.
The tubing from the oil filter cap goes to the cold start valve air tube,
through an
orifice and into the intake manifold, so the crankcase is being purged
directly into
the intake manifold and not the air cleaner. Pages D:06:02 & 03 of the
workshop
manual, state that a leak in the dip stick, filter cap or gaskets will
cause a lean
running condition.

You do not have the door completely latched if you
can "push it down". The door has two latch positions
for each of the front and rear latches. Try adjusting
the latch post slightly in the outward direction to see
if you can get the door to reach the second latch
position. Do that on one post at a time by loosening
the nut and moving the post oh such a little bit on
each attempt to correct this.

Hi, I have a request that I wondered if you might be able to help me
with. I am helping out with our town's Project Graduation Project, an
all-night, after graduation party we
give to the seniors of our town every year to help keep them safe and
substance free the night of graduation. We have a theme every year that
we surprise them with, by decorating the entire school, this year the
theme is "Back to the Future" we are looking for someone who might want
to show their Delorean, the car would not be driven or
touched, but used as a prop and could be protected, but it certainly
would add a great touch to the event. We have exhausted known resources,
and I wondered if you knew where I might post this request? I can't find
a local chapter, we live in Connecticut. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lorrie Shaw

I got my new vanity plates today My original choice (credit to Mike
Substelny) of "BARE SS" was denied. Either another DMC owner (or an
employee of an adult nightclub), already has it, or - apparently the
Illinois DMV doesn't have the sense of humor/irony that I had hoped for.
I was suprised, however to find that "DMC XII" was not already taken, so
that's the one they gave me!
