Rob, I don't recall anyone ever discussing this on the DML, and I haven't seen any other response, but I can tell you exactly how to remove and replace them. It's not too difficult. I can also tell you how to easily, permanently and totally prevent problems caused by the design of the latches themselves, namely malfunctions caused by activating the lock mechanism when the door is open or not quite closed correctly. It's not a difficult fix either, but it's likely to raise a lot of controversy, despite the amazing improvement in function. Before we get into that, you need to know two other things: how to adjust the door mechanisms for proper function, and even before that, how to get inside the doors to access the mechanisms. Do you have a handle on that info? You mention adjusting the pin each time you open the door. Do you know how to adjust the striker pin (aka striker bolt)? How are you adjusting the pin each time? (BTW, my Jan '82 has no door guides either... never has. Somebody goofed, or maybe I have old doors, though I believe they are factory originals.) Wayne A. Hey guys! I've ordered a set of door latches from DMC to replace my old ones. They were so marred from 26 years worth of slamming the door that even the plasticwas chipped and chunked! Every time I go to shut my door I have t opositionthe pin so the door will shut otherwise the doors either latch unevenly leaving a nice inch and a half gap along the bottom sill or getting stuck and I have to pull up hard to get the door open. Said events mainly happened with my right side door, which shuts fine with the pins placed properly. I also have a set of door guides that I bought from Toby but have yet to install them. My car is a very early, VIN 791, and neither of the previous owners had the guides installed. Getting back on track now - do any of you have any tips I should heed when removing the old latches / reinstalling the new latches? I love my car and want to make sure I do the job right the first time. Thanks a bunch everyone!
