There are several possible sources of water leaks, I would suggest you
purchase a copy of the Water Leaks Bulletin from PJ Grady. If he doesn't
have this information get back to us and we will get you a copy. This
publication shows diagrams and explanations on how to correct all water
leaks. This
will save you a lot of time trying a hit & miss system through the list.

It could be leaking from under the windshield header....this is a very 
common
problem. The solution is to take the black metal piece at the top of the
windshield off (a couple of screws) and reseal were the factory put the
windshield in. There was a small bead from the factory and mine was
deteriorated and dried allowing water to seap in just at the visor and 
leak.

Subject: DML: Fuel Accumulator And Speedo Cable
    In the process of rebuilding the car, we have removed the frame from
the body.  Is there any way to check to see if the fuel accumulator is
good?
    Also, when the speedo cable was removed from the right angle drive
(twisted off the right angle drive cable out to the hub), the cable was
seized in the housing.  Upon removing the lower housing from the service
counter, the lower cable turned freely.  I removed the upper speedometer
cable housing from the service counter and it also turned freely.  I
discovered the upper speedo cable is a 1/16" too long.  After pulling
the upper cable out, I ground off a little bit of the upper end (flat
end) on a bench grinder, cleaned and lubed it up, and then reinstalled
everything.  Everything from the right angle drive to the speedometer
turns freely now.  Those of you having problems with your right angle
drive might check this as a source of wear.

I had that problem on my 83.  It turns out the fiberglass liner above the
visor had had small pin holes in it.  I filled the holes  and it stopped 
the
leak.

I had offered a black dash cover for sale for $20.00.  This was not a
Dash-Mat product but the more expensive ones offered by some DMC service
places.  I bought a new Gray Dash-Mat product for about $30.00.  The gray
one is O.K. but, in my opinion, the gray color is a bit too light and
doesn't match the gray dash well.  It also feels to be made from a lighter
material than the other cover on the market.  The Dash-mat version doesn't
fully cover and protect the dash pad on the passenger side below the glove
compartment.  In addition the glove box opening on the Dash-mat product is
really big and not a small opening as on the more expensive cover.   It
does fit well however.
At $30.00 Dash-mat makes a good cover and it's nice to see a company that
makes them for our cars.  But, I think the more expensive cover is nicer. 
It just depends on how much you want to spend.  With my first Delorean I
had purchased the more expensive Gray cover and like it alot.  My Second
Delorean came with the same more expensive cover only in black.  I didn't
like the black-on-gray look so I opted to sell it, which someone has
already done.  If you want a good cover at a good price, the Dash-mat
product will suffice, just know that if you are ordering the gray one you
may feel, as I do, that the color isn't quite right.

dmlers,
        This may sound like a stupid question but recently i've spotted a
D parked outside someone's house about thirty miles from where i live. I
know that the body is stainless and that DMC was going to offer a 25 year
warranty on the body but is this kind of constant exposure  bad for the
rest of the car? The car is in Marland so it's not as if it's being
exposed to subfreeezing cold or extreme heat.  I'm interested in
approaching the owner and seeing if he or she is willing to sell it but i
don't believe that they drive it.Thanks in advance for any help!

Subject: DML: Willing to sale to Good Home - 1981 DeLorean #01529
After almost three and a half years of ownership I have decided to 
consider selling my 1981 DeLorean DMC-12. It is an early production model 
(May 1981 build, VIN #01529) with black leather interior and a 5-speed 
manual transmission. I used the car as a daily driver for about 2 1/2 
years until purchasing a new car the first week of November. Now it sits 
in the garage except for a monthly drive to keep the fluids from 
destabilizing.
When I purchased the car it had about 12,100 miles showing on the 
odometer. Approximately 50 miles from completing my 2,100 mile "coming 
home" trip from Oregon to Missouri, the angle drive failed. I have never 
fixed it, but can make a decent guess that I have driven it between 
20,000 and 25,000 miles since then. This DeLorean does have the grooves 
ont eh hood, fuel flap door and locking gas cap, but the windshield with 
the radio antenna was replaced two years ago after a rock cracked it. The 
car is not a concours original in any way - it was painted red by a 
previous owner, and I have installed an alarm, Alpine CD stereo and 140 
amp "police" alternator.
The car has proved itself to me to be a fairly solid everyday driver as 
long as it is maintained prooperly. I had planned to garage it for two 
years and do a complete frame-off restoration that would include 
stripping the paint and rebrushing the car. However, the demands on my 
time and my career goals have forced me to rethink devoting this much 
time to what is now a "weekend car." If the car was restored the way I 
wanted I can safely say it would be worth $24,000.
I did not buy the car as an investment and am looking at finding a good 
home for it rather than making a mint on it. At present, I would be 
willing to part with it for $12,000. Perhaps less for the perfect loving 
buyer, but don't expect me to consider any offer below $10,000. I would 
prefer the car go to a DMLer and will not consider listing it elsewhere 
for at least a couple of weeks.

I was recently looking through a book I recieved for Christmas titled 
"The World Encyclopedia of Cars" when I stumbled across an article on 
the DeLorean. One of the pictures in the article really baffled me. It 
shows the rear of a DeLorean, only the tail lights are split into 3 
vertical sections (kind of like a Mustang) and the antenna is mounted in 
the center of the roof. I uploaded the picture so you guys could help me 
identify where this car came from and what it is. Is it a prototype that 
I've never seen before or what? Well, the picture is at this address:

D.J. LaForge,
Try changing the seal at the top of the windshield where it meets the 
door's
edge.  This seal also travels down the side of the windshield on the left 
and
right side of the car.  That is where the water will likely to get into 
the
car.  The other door seal you change only helps to keep air and some rain 
and
water out.  
If you want to, you can try removing the old seal and repositioning them a
little higher at the top of the windshield.  You can "regluing" them into 
the
new position.  This may help save you some money.
You should also check the new rubbers seal you installed for they may not 
be
position right.  Make sure the doors do not crease the new rubber edges 
when
closed and create gaps which will allow air and water leaks.

My son just bought me a model kit of a 70's Chevy Corvette concept car
called an "Aerovette".  The car had "bi-fold gull-wing doors" , a mid
engine and the prototype at one point had a Wankel engine in it before
being replaced by a small blcok Chevy V-8 . The car had deformable plastic
nose and tail section as well as being painted sterling silver.
hmmmmm.....Now where have I seen a silver gullwing car with rubber(ish)
nose and tail section as well as having the engine in the
rear???........So, does anyone know if JZD had seen this prior to his
leaving GM and how much of the Delorean was based on this car (if any). 
The car does have a Delorean type look to it.   Wasn't JZD one the the
first to push for the Wankel engine while at GM?
Since it was built I assume it must be somewhere, anyone know of it's

   Hello fellow D Lovers,
Wanted to ask a couple questions about dealership signs. 
I puchased one a couple years ago from a guy in North Carolina, and it 
was one
of the big double sided signs. I paid 2k for it, was this a good 
price?,,,what
is it worth, and is it more rare than the single sided signs. I know that 
were
about 345 dealers and I assume that the double sided signs were for bigger
dealerships. Would it be a safe guess that there was less of the larger 
ones.
And does anyone have an educated guess as to how many they think are left.
I've heard stories of dealers being so mad that they trashed the signs in 
the
garbage after the factory closed.

I could not disagree with you more.  The people in this group have been
nothing but helpful and encouraging.  No one has ever tried to sell me
on their product, only point me in the right direction for the help I
needed.  Everyone always has an opinion as to how best repair a car but
I have never been given a sales pitch.  Only good advise!
Allow newcomers such as myself to decide for themselves without painting
this group as something it is definitely not.

Subject: DML: AC vacuum hose to engine ?
While doing some minor repairs in the engine bay I found the end of a hose
that had been seald off with an old nail by somebody who owned the car
earlier. It is a small plastik like hose about 4 mm in diameter that 
enters
the engine-bay through the left rear pontoon at about halfway between the
vacuum-tank and the firewall. I traced the hose back to the other end a
found that it is connected to the orange marked hose comming from 
connector
nr.3 on the AC selector-switch and running to the right front wheel-well. 
It
all looks factory installed to me but I couldn't find it in the manual.
Does anybody know where this hose should be connected to in the engine 
bay ?
FYI: it is certainly not the main vacuum line to the selector switch, I 
did
found that one, it is quit a bit larger. The AC switch does function
properly.

I believe that this car is at (or at least WAS at) the National Corvette
Museum in Bowling Green, KY.  I was up there about 5 years ago and 
remember
seeing a Corvette with gullwing doors on display.  I am assuming that the
car I saw was the Aerovette.  Naturally, I toured that place before I 
caught
the "De Lorean bug," so I didn't get the details of that display.  I have
been meaning to go back there with the sole intention of getting the scoop
on this car...I hope it is still there!

Hey Adam,
I received the same book for Christmas. Very nice book with lots of nice
pictures including 1 page on our beloved Delorean (although the author
doesn't really have too many kind words)  :-(  Author speaks of the DMC-12
of never having anything more than acceptable handling and now being
somewhat of a cult car. Interesting stuff indeed!
But to answer your question Adam (and I'm sure everyone will correct me if
I'm wrong) but I believe what you are seeing is the European taillight
layout (also note the eupean license plate). That's why the backend looks 
a
little strange- it's the way they all (DMC-12's) were made for the 
european
market.

Actually, if I remember correctly there was a picture of this concept
Corvette in Stainless Steel Illusion. Can't give you a page number because
I don't own the book (just checked it out from my local library 3 times!).
I'm not really certain what was all mentioned in the book about the car

I do remember seeing a picture.
Anyone that has the book confirm this and hand out a page number?

     A new performance camshaft will generally have more lift and 
duration than a stock camshaft.  This will give you more power.  However 
depending on how the cam is designed will determine whether you have a 
lot of low end torque and not much high end horsepower or vice-versa.  
Too much lift and duration can cause valve clearance problems and piston 
knock but that only happen with true high lift racing cams.  Sometimes 
when upgrading cams you need to replace valves and valve retainers but 
again that is only on camshafts with high lift on very long 
duration(race only). 
     A larger cam usually will lead to an increased exhaust note due to 
increased air flow and sometimes can increase emissions.  This is why 
most aftermarket cams are not legal for street use.  However if you live 
outside of California that shouldn't be too much of a worry.  
     The reason why you don't see too many aftermarket cams for the PRV 
engine is probably because there isn't much demand for them.  You won't 
have any problems finding cams in several different grinds for Camaros, 
Mustangs, Miatas,or Hondas because there is high demand.  Not too many 
people are racing cars with PRV motors.  However you can always have one 
custom made for you but naturally that costs more and you have to find 
someone who knows what their doing and has knowledge about your engine.

This is one of European DeLoreans. Like Scott, I saw this car in Ireland 
at Eurofest a few years ago. Look closely at hte photos and you see that 
the binnacle is on the right side of the car, indicating it is RHD.

THis car is discussed in Stainless Steel Illusion, and Bill Collins is 
quoted as saying that JZD attempted to buy the rights to the design and 
engineering that had been done on this car, but was rebuffed by GM.
