Hallo DMCers,
Does anyone have, or know of, a wrecked DMC (hit on the passengers side)
for sale? I need a good driver's door and driver's side front fender and
rear quarter panel.
Yes I got hit on the driver's side! Although not as bad as I first
feared, it caused considerable cosmetic damage to the driver's side
(door took most of the force, with edges of front(ahh!) and rear fenders
hit!). Also need all the fibreglass bits and pieces around the door
sill.
If you have any info. please email me direct at <ian@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope no one finds themselves EVER
in my present predicament!!!
Cheers, IAN

Hi!
I am the DeLorean enthusiast ( not own one yet) and just join the list.
Do you have any experience of where can I find the used copy at the lower
price for DeLorean workshop manual? How much should it be for the new one?
Thank you very much and Merry Christmas !!

A "friend of a friend," named Bloomfield or Broomfield, claims to own
"the second completed DeLorean." I have seen the car but only when
driving through the gentleman's parking lot (it is kept at his business),
it is an early '81 w/gas filler flap and is/was registered in MA. I
could get the reg. number from one of my photos if someone could run it
through the DMV we could finally know the VIN. I believe the owner had
some relation to DMC (the company) itself and he is very reluctant to
discuss it. His sons are my age (early-mid 20s) and one of them has even
allowed a friend of mine to drive the car. It is an automatic, interior
color unknown. I told Knut Grimsrud about this a few months back,
unfortunately neither him nor myself has time to explore this much. The
car is usually located in Bolton, MA, and if anyone wants to take the
time to look at it I could try to make arrangements. I will see what I
can do, I have not pursued this lately and perhaps I can learn more than
I could previously.

Subject: DML: "DE LOREAN: Gold Portfolio" book, and Houston, TX!
Hello Fellow DML'ers,
I've been on the list since August 1998. Anyway, I went to a
local Casino's Auto Collection, where I found a book about the
DeLorean, titled "DE LOREAN: Gold Portfolio." It traces the
DeLorean from 1977 to 1995. It is published by Brookland Books,
and is compiled by R. M. Clarke. It includes: Road and Track
Tests, Model Introductions, Driving Impressions, Comparisons,
History, Factory Visit, Performance & Technical Data, Specifications,
and Long Term Reports. I got the book as a gift for Christmas. It
cost $24.95, and has 174 pages. I'm not finished reading the book,
actually, I haven't started! :-) I was just browsing through it, when I
saw
a picture of a 4-Door DeLorean! I even saw a picture of Joe LoRe of
DeLorean Services, looked like it was from the 70's or 80's! A picture
of the cover of this book is located at:
http://members.aol.com/vipertv/delorean_book.jpg
I noticed that this book wasn't at amazon.com! My question is:
Does anyone else on the list have this book, and if so, did you like it?
This March, I'm going to Houston, Texas. I was wondering if there
were any DeLorean related attractions in, or near the city? Since the
DMC factory building was here.
See ya...

Subject: DML: DeLorean VIN 00557
In response to Claude, there is also a DeLorean for sale in the Western
part of Norway (!) at $30,000 with the VIN 00557 !!!
The Service Bulletins mentions only 1981 cars from 560 to 7199.
What should one look out for regarding these cars? Are they not as safe
as a "real production" DeLorean? Or is it the opposite? If the cars were
testcars and showcars, maybe DMC mechanics paid extra attention
regarding operation and quality?
Sincerely;
Mr. Stian Birkeland

Hello
When we went to John DeLoreans office at the Belfast Factory, May 1997 we
found a pile of telexs that were related to these early cars. The most
interesting telex that we found was for the Island Legend industry TWIN
and SINGLE TURBO CARS. Rob Grady has a Twin Turbo car Vin 5?? and he had
a customers Legend SINGLE Turbo Vin 52?.
As you know the July 1977 Car and Driver magazine has an article about the
PRV V-6. The DeLorean is on the cover. The name of the article is
FIREBALL V-6. The Twin Turbo DMC Vin 502 raced a Ferrari, a 928, and a
high
preformance Corvette. The DeLorean Twin Turbo Killed these cars at
Bridgehampton in 1981.
The DMC Twin Turbo was supposed to be the 1984 DMC. Ever wonder why
there is no 1983 Chevrolet Corvette? Why did GM "re-design" the Corvette
for 1984? Compare the WARRANTY and the PERFORMANCE DATA between the "1984
Vette" and DMC #502. Twin Turbo 1984 DMC had a five year 50,000 mile
warranty, who cares what the "Vette" had.
"That's the idea to build a better mouse trap...but not if your
the mouse" Jeff Bridge in Tucker: Man and His Dream.
Have a Happy Christmas/ Chaunakah/ etc. etc. Hope you received many
Delorean Goodies. I got the New Video "Car and The Factory" from my
Girlfriend Laura.
Sincerely
Michael Pack
P.S.
Thank you to Bruce, Dave, and DMC Joe for all of your help with my
DeLorean.

it seems like the idle RPMs are actually changing. When I put it in drive

point it seems to run completely normal. I did not think anything of it

There was a "George Broomfield" who worked for DMCL as the Director of
Manufacturing. he was a former GM executive before he worked at DMCL,
there is a photo of him on p81 of SSI. You hsould be abel to see the VIN
through the windshield on the dash (unless it's got a dashmat.
It would be intersting to know more, particularly if this is George
Broomfield.

The book is also available from Classic Motorbooks in Wisconsin. The info
is in the back issues.
The DMC factory building is near Belfast, Northern Ireland. The company
in Houston has no legal relation to the original DeLorean Motor Company.

Hi,
The following is the last paragraph of a brief bio. I wrote for the
newsletter Knut Grimsrud writes for us.
"A note to James Espy and Knut Grimsrud. Thank you for the DML. Those
of you that didn't own a DeLorean prior to the existance of this
resource have no idea what a value it is. People may get the wrong
idea about the reliability of these cars because of the nature of the
questions presented. I think there should be more good stories and
comments by those of us that have very few problems and just work on
our cars for the love of it."

This is the "Warm up" cycle. When your engine reaches optimal running
temp
(~160) it should stop. It is engaged by the "no throttle" switch (when

I also recieved the book for Christmas, but unfortunately, since it was

similar to the one DeLorean wanted to build. It is a very interesting
book, I can hardly put the thing down! I think you'll like it. But I do
have one question for everybody. How come all of the review articles of
the car have different 0-60 times? I noticed Car & Driver had the lowest
time of 8.5 seconds, but some other articles had it listed as high as
10.5, and I even saw an 11.5 in there! One note, all of the DeLoreans
used in the reviews were 5-speeds, so the transmission isn't the cause
of the differences. Happy holidays!

Has anybody on this list done or attempted a motor swap on a Delorean?
Does anybody know if the V-6 from the Acura NSX would fit? Obviously
there would have to be custom mounting brackets etc. . but does anybody
know if it would work? A 290 hp Delorean sounds pretty good to me.
Thanks in advance.

If this happens only when you first start up the car you are right.
However if this occurs after the car is warmed up it could indicate a
bad O2 sensor.

Thaks for the info on the new book. However I just came back from the
bookstore and they were unable to locate it in the computer. I told
them the title and publisher but they couldn't find it. Can you send me
the ISBN number on the back of the book. It's the number located just
below the bar code. If you're confused as to which one to give me just
e-mail me both of them . Thanks for all the help. My e-mail address is

The idea behind the 4-door DeLorean was that it would use most of the same
components as the 2-door, thereby being cheap to build and engineer. JZD
knew that the 2-door sports car would not generate enough profit by
itself, and a 4-door car was necessary for long-term viability of the
company. Had the 4-door come first, the company might have been more
successful, mused Fluffy. The powertrain was supposed to be the same, and
most of the door components. I don't know what was supposed to be done
about the lack of storage space. I guess a re-designed front end (taller,
store the spare tire vertically next to the fuel tank) might have provided
reasonable storage space. I think the sedan was supposed to be rear
engine too, to simplify production, but I am not sure about that.

I think that it might have something to do with the driving style. The
PRV has an odd power curve and the DeLorean has rather taller gearing than
many sports cars. A driver not knowing the car well could easily fumble
the 0-60 performance.
The C&D review that quotes 8.5 seconds is actually an estimate. The Road
& Track which says 10.5 is based on actual figures. But someone on the
list e-mailed me a while ago (I still have the mail, I think) claiming
that he had tested it himself and gotten 8.6 seconds. I don't know of any
11.5 reviews, but would love to check them out. (I spend a couple hours
at the library recently digging up all the old reviews...)

Wouldn't this have been the third gold-plated DeLorean which is now in
(I think) Maryland? I'm pretty sure no one on the list owns that one.

Subject: DML: Re: Drive Shaft (CV Joint problem) (HELP!!)
I'm not picking on anyone, but, when you say that you can not find a part
for your DeLorean, I always wonder if you have checked with the DeLorean
Suppliers such as DeLorean Motor Company ( there parts search engine is
great) or PJ Grady's. If you look on the various web pages, you can
always
find one of the parts/service companies listed. Most of these parts are
competively priced and the knowledge that the suppliers have is so
valuable.
I have found them to be very helpful in troubleshooting the problem so
that
I buy the correct parts.
I'm not saying that you should not shop around, I think that shopping
helps
keep the pricing in line. I spent al day yesterday shopping for a
television. The time I spend shopping is proportionate to the amount of
money I am spending.
My $0.02 worth.

You will find it difficult to find used copies of these manuals. Her are
the prices for new manuals from PJ Grady. Parts Manual $42
Workshop Manual $48
Factory Bulletins $32
All three are available as a set for $115
These are very reasonable prices. Most factory manuals for newer cars are
$125 and up.

Many of the items you listed should be available from many of the DeLorean
part suppliers with several of those parts at affordable prices. You can
purchase an owners manual from PJ Grady ask for P2105011 OWNERS HANDBOOK $
18.95.

Unfortunately, every picture in the book is B&W. (Except the front and
back cover).

As for the ISBN number, it has...
"ISBN 1-85520-331-6" on top of the bar code,
And "9 781855 203310" below the bar code.
I got the book at National Automobile Museum in Reno, NV when I went to
see the gold DeLorean there. I'm sure if you go to a car museum that
has books you will find it there. Every car museum I've been at has had
it. It cost me $25.00.

Your right on both you counts. The first two gold "D's" sold through
american express are at the Texas bank and National Car Museum in Reno,
NV. I have seen the one in Reno and it is absolutely spectacular. That
one there has the brown interior. And I have seen pictures of the one
in Maryland, it also has the brown interior. But from what I could tell
from the "Official" Texas Gold DeLorean website, that one has a Black
interior. Can anyone who has seen that car confirm this?
The "Official" website I'm talking about is at...

If you wish to see my picutes of the one in Reno, I have 16 pictures I
took of it on my Website.
