I'm not trying to belabor the point, but you missed my point. I am
assuming Dave is new to Deloreans...certainly not a Delorean mechanic...
and he wants to end up with a daily driver. He intimated that he was
relying on the seller's word that all the parts strewn around the
seller's garage were, in fact, ALL of the parts. My point is if he would
be willing to spend just $1,000 more, he could get a car that IS all
together and then he would only have to put together...or
restore...those parts that were needed. I disagree that you have to
completely take a car apart before it is "counted" as completely
restored. Sorry to be so touchy, but repairing or replacing anything on
a Delorean is no picnic and undertaking the complete rebuilding of one
would be a nightmare to all but the most able mechanics. De Miller,
Kansas City.

Hi everyone:
I'll be replacing my radio soon (hopefully this weekend) and would
like to know if anyone has a make, model, brand etc., that they have
used with little or no trouble. Of course, I'd like to pull the old one
out and drop a new on in, if possible. I'm not necessarily looking for
one for sale from list members (but, if you've got one, email me and
we'll see), just some help in pointing me toward ones available at Best
Buy etc., that have worked well for some of you is what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance. De Miller, Kansas City.

All messages sent to the list are screened by me, and if on-topic and
appropriate, I forward them to the subscribers (over 1200, now). I
"bounce" perhaps one or two per day. Most are messages that are personal
in nature and should be sent via private email rather than through the
list. Messages that have embedded HTML or other encoded text are also
rejected as they are a waste of bandwidth. Some are out and out
misinformation, others offer the same information as a recently previous
posting.

The idea is to keep the signal-to-noise ratio as high as possible. A few
years back i turned off the moderation for two weeks while I was on
vacation and someone posted their Trans Am for sale (among other abuses).
The majority of list members who have let me know their preference far
and away prefer moderation over "free-flowing".

I  have not used it myself, but Kenwood offers some decent looking (from
the specifications) "Shaft Mount" units.  One of them you can even hook
a CD changer to it.

Use a 10 ohm, 10 watt resistor (available from radio shack in a 2
pack) as the jumper. That will dim the lights to match the dash
lights at night. The resistor only gets a little warm. The AC lights
are normally supplied by a completly different circuit than the dash
lights, that's why they still work while your dash lights are dead.
Fix the dash lights, make up the jumper, and then the AC lights will
come on with the dash lights.

The radio I have in my DeLorean is the original radio (which works great)
that
came with the car.  I did however want to put a CD player in the car.  I
purchased a CD changer and had it installed, which was very easy.  The
only
hard part was locating the constant power and stand by power.  However
the CD
changer and tape deck works great and I did not have to cut the dash.  I
mounted the changer behind the netting behind the driver's seat.  I did
this
to try to keep everything original.  I am not sure if this helped any.

Matt,

The soft cover book TURBOCHARGERS by Hugh Macinnes is one of the better
books on turbocharging. I used it when I did my own turbo system. It's
available from Classic Motor Books, phone # 1-800-826-6600 or fax #
1-715-294-4448. The book is catalog # 107788a and it sell for $16.95.

My car has started to stall when I approach a traffic light or stop sign.
It does not do it all the time however.  It happens when the engine is hot
or cold.   I will come to a stop light and depress the clutch and BAM, the
RPMs drop like a rock and the engine cuts off.  There is no problem
restarting the engine and taking off again.  It tends to not happen if I
keep the RPM's up and dowshift to a stop.  Could this be an idle thing or
some type of relay cutting out.

Any suggestions.

if the oil is just leaking from the bolt holes, try a little rtv (blue).
remove the bolts from one side at a time. clean the oil completely from
the bolt - spray some brake cleaner in the bolt hole and blow it out
with compressed air. apply a small dab of rtv to  around the base of the
bolt. DO NOT PUT RTV IN THE HOLES OR ON THE TREADS. (RTV, when dried,
will not compress, therefore rtv in the bolt holes could cause the
aluminum hole to split if it is torqued too tight (like putting oil on
head bolts - a no-no). replace the bolts finger tight one at a time,
then starting in the middle of the row, torque to the spec. If done
properly, the rtv will be forced in the gasket around the bolt hole and
stop oil seeping.

talk to steve wynne at DMC Houston. i think he is putting a "kit"
together to covert to a DIN type face. At least he has a drawing of a
bracket that when mounted to the modified dash, it will provide plenty
of support for the radio while holding the center ac registers in place.
My Sony CD player looks and operates GREAT.

Tom,
You problem may be related to the "idle speed circuit", this is a tough
one
to call because there are several other items that could cause this
problem. Before checking the idle circuit be sure that your not having a
fuel pump supply voltage problem. Start by changing the fuel pump fuse (#
7), even if it looks O.K.,. Next pull the fuel pump cover and make sure
that the electrical wires and terminals are clean and solid.

Try a Nakamichi CD Radio, they are the best around.  I've had mine for
about a year now and not a spot of trouble.  I had a Sony before and
that was total junk.  The CD would skip for the smallest bumb.  I
returned it after just two weeks and got the Nakamichi.  Anyway, the
sony looked like a toy with those big buttons.  It will cost you more
though.  the Sony was $250 and the Nakamichi cost me $600.  A bit much
but very worth it.  Great sound quality!!  If you are looking for
something a little lower in price, try a Pioneer.  They have that super
tuner that works GREAT with the windshield antenna.

Sure,  Its in Norwegian, And there is some guy who saw a DeLorean for
sale in some remote norwegian town, and was asking if anyone in the area
could inspect it for him..

And thats about it...   Some nerds who nknow nothing about the D,
wondered why he wasnt curious about the colour etc..  ;)heheh

And then there is another strand about some poor D owner wanting to have
a minor DMC meet in Norway, and he was ridiculed by lots of other people
on the channel for having a car that was so "ugly"...   They apparently
don't know what they are talking about....

I don't want to translate it in any more detail as the strand was made
up of about 43 messages...  But thats about the general content...

I installed the latest Sony cassette unit in my car. I used a cutoff
wheel on a moto-tool and to the opening. This leaves a thin area
between the vents and the radio cutout. You have to work slowly to
keep from melting the coating on the metal plate. The Sony comes with
a DIN bracket that has tabs that can be bent out to grab onto the
opening. The stock rear mounting support matches up to the Sony
without modification. Some advantages to the Sony: Mounting is easy,
the power antenna will only go up when the radio is playing, not when
the cassette or the CD is in use, and if you enter your car in
Concours events they can only nick you at most 1 point for not having
a stock radio. The Sony has a clock built in so it replaces that
function in the ASI radios, The cassette will work, so they shouldn't
take off for that. And if you run new Monster cable speaker wires and
put in new speakers you get really great sound. The CD changer is an
option you can remove for the shows.

Kits are available to put an older radio into a DIN opening, so if
you want to put the stock radio back in you can do so without
anything showing.

I did the same thing but removed the AC panel first and installed the
Adaptor before replacing the panel. This made re installing the AC boots
and air ducts very easy, It also allowed me to clean up the rats net of
wires and vacuum lines.

There is also a conversion kit available that allows the reinstallation of

In 1982 founder of the highly successful Lotus marque, Colin Chapman, died
unexpectedly of a reported heart attack. However, facts uncovered by a
prominent British business publication dont seem to agree with the
official cause of death. Jukka Shivonnen takes a look at the controversy
and the events surrounding it.

The article is interesting but pretty over the top...

Hi everyone:
Thanks for the help on the radio. My next need is a coolant bottle.
Anyone got an extra (not the plastic one) that they need to get rid of?
Aluminum or stainless, either one. Thanks. De Miller, Kansas City.

Michael,
Yes, the A/C drain pipe is located between the right side frame rail and
the gas tank.
To gain access remove the panel located under the spare tire. The pipe is
made of soft rubber and is easily cleaned out by hand, no air needed.

Hooters Annual Car Show
Update #4
Mobile, Alabama
October 31, 1998

So far, eleven (11) DeLoreans and there owners are scheduled to attend
the car show being held at Hooters in Mobile Alabama on October 31,
1998.

Steve Wynne of DeLorean Motor Company will present an informal tech
seminar for the owners if we can get an even dozen (12) DeLoreans at the
show.

I have found two brand new owners who have just purchased there
DeLoreans, and one owner who may be traveling from Hong Kong to attend.

I will be hosting a BBQ at my home for the owners and there
families/guests.  At the show, I will give each owner a map to my home.
If you have children who want to go trick or treat, they can join my son
and make the rounds in my neighborhood.  Its new and safe.  We have
plenty of parking, room for more than twenty cars and the area will be
lite up like day light.  So do not worry about your car.

I have had many people ask me if I was going to arrange for Motel/Hotel
space.  The short answer is no, but I will provide you with a list of
places with there phone numbers which are within five miles of my home.
They are all nice and clean.  If you want this list, please email me
directly so we do not waste bandwidth on the website.

Please send in your registration for the show itself as soon as
possible, it makes it easier for the show organizers.  The link for the
form is below.  Just mail it directly to the address shown on the form.
Make sure that you sign up for "Class #40", we will have friendly
competition between ourselves, and who knows, perhapes one of us will
win best of show.  Do not worry about the condition of your car, drive
it, haul it, push it, but just be here.  The point of this is for us to
get together and have fun.

Subject: DML: NCDMC Gatherings

Last weekend marked the first meeting of the Northern California
DeLorean Motor Club (NCDMC).

The meet took place at the Peppermill in Concord, CA. 5 owners
brought their cars and also a couple of potential owners came to get
a closer look at the cars and ask questions. After a big breakfast
everyone went out to take pictures of the line of cars, swap stories
and generally nose around each other's cars. Pictures will be posted to my
web site by early next week.

Our October meeting will be held on Sunday October 18th, meeting for
breakfast at the Marie Calendars off hwy. 680 at the Bollinger Canyon Rd.
exit. We will meet at 9am to eat and chat. Following the breakfast
(approx.10:45) we will caravan over to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum
for a tour and photo opportunity. The staff will be expecting us, and
depending on the group size, we may receive a group discount on admission
(currently $8/person). The staff will allow us to park our cars in the
front circular drive of the museum.

The tour will be about an hour and a half and for those wishing to stay
for lunch. We will be contacting a nearby cafe (walking distance) to set
up a group reservation.

The coordinator for this event is James Cooper. Please email James
directly ASAP with your RSVP at:

WtrResQ@xxxxxxx

On the subject of the NCDMC, we discussed what we'd like to do in the
future and how we would plan future meetings. We all agreed that we'd
like to host a large DeLorean event some time in the future, perhaps
in the Carmel/Monterey Bay area (We promise to keep it cheap and lots
of fun!). Also look for an announcement about the NCDMC web site.

We're looking for input from the East Coast clubs as to some of the
activities they do. We're not looking to become a 'proper' club with
officers and a treasury. We simply want to make a way for all the
owners in this area to get in contact and have fun!

Thanks again to everyone who came and we hope more N. Cal owners will
be able to make it next time!

Hi Mike,

This is Kayo.  Glad to see you got your other "second" car on the road.
About your A/C drain hose you can access it from the hood under the spare
tire.
Check it out to see what is obstructing it.  After you clear it, try
EXTENDING
the hose by adding on an additional section to pass the chassis.  This
will
prevent water dripping on to your chassis which will speed up rusting.
Poor
design to have water from the A/C dripping  all over the front chassis
area.
RUST!!!

Have time?  Give me a call.

Subject: DML: Original NCT Tires

There's a good chance that I will be purchasing and driving home an 81
with 14K miles on it. It has the original tires and I will be driving
about 400 miles home. Do you think that tires this old are still
roadworthy or is it worth $400 to have the car trucked home?
Mechanically it shouldn't be a problem as the current owner has replaced
about all of the crucial components. How easy is it to fix a flat on one
of these beasts? Looking forward to becoming part of the DeLorean

re: tires, 17 year old NCT's need to be replaced, period. if you are
intent on driving it, get new tires when you pick it up. the spares are
notorious leakers and aren't meant for extended travel. besides, if you
get a flat on the rear and you don't have a "luggage" carrier, you can
count on having a "buddy" in the passenger seat as the rear tire won't
fit in the spare wheel well. all things considered, i'd ship it until i
knew the car
