To help fund the eventual purchase of my dream car, I am offering an
electronic 2-year DeLeorean calendar, promoting the DCO, for your
computer desktop backgrounds.
Each month has a dominating DeLorean image w/ a small calendar in the
corners.  The images will be 72dpi (screen resolution) and burned to a
multi-platform CD-ROM (IBM & MAC friendly). It is the same calendar
displayed at the Cinn. Show but this CD-ROM version will include some
bonus images from the Cinn. Car Show (all thanks again go to Ken).
  CD-ROM Price: $30.00 (includes shipping)
To preview some sample months in .pdf form and/or order, please

Bruce,
As you know, car dealers regularly offer under coating as additional rust
protection to new car customers. The fact that this option effects a
salesmen's commission, is the reason that many DeLoreans were undercoated,
despite their "no corrosion" claim.

Lee,
You will probably have to get stuck one more time before you find the
problem, here's what to do. There are many items that can shut the fuel
system down and very few items that effect spark, so lets eliminate the
fuel pump first. I will assume that you have inspected the fuel pump fuse
(fuse # 7), if you haven't , go ahead and replace it even if it looks
good.
And inspect the fuel pump itself, be sure connections are solid. Now lets
set up the test. Go back to your electrical compartment and locate the RPM
relay (black or green plastic cover with a blue multi pin connector)
located near the rear section. Hook up a test light between the any ground
wire and the white/blue wire in the multi pin connector. Run the test lamp
so that you can see it from the drivers seat, the lamp will be lit
whenever
the fuel pump is running. The next time your engine quits see if the light
goes on when you crank the starter. If  the light does not light your
problem is in the fuel pump circuit.
If the light is on and the car will not start until it cools down you
probably have a bad impulse coil which is located in the ignition
distributor.

Lee, My DeLorean died like yours while I was at the Montery British Car
Show last Spring.  We were on 17 Mile drive and it died.

No further suspense, my new fuel inlet hose had collasped.  The hose had
turned into a bubble gum like material.  I bought this hose from the
supplier that claims to be number 1.  I replaced the hose and all is
well.

Hi,

For those of you who have never heard of the "Monterey Historic" go
to;
http://www.laguna-seca.com
find the small lettering at the bottom of the page, click on events
and follow the link.

I grew up in the area. Before there was a Laguna Seca there were the
Pebble Beach Road Races. I went to the last one and then worked at
Laguna Seca when I was in H.S..

Maybe we could plan an informal get-together there next year?

I'm trying to do the same.  I've replaced gas lines to and from the tank,
lower tank hose, tank boot, fuel pump, tank fuel filter, line filter,
cleaned
distrubutor, changed injector, & warm up regulator, added redline injector
cleaners and the car passed CA smog but when it is cold it has NO
power...when
warm it is driveable.  I've not been drivieng the car but many people say
that
driveing it is the only way to shake all the rubber & stuff out of the
system.
If the car does start to run right should I look at changing the fuel
distributor & accummilator.  The car has 13,000 and had not been run in
two
years and had California re-formulated gas in it.

If Hawkeye every responded to you or if you have his e-mail address, or

Subject: DML: Happy new owner!

Well, after reading the list and searching for many months, I am the proud
owner of #10270, a 5-Speed with 9k miles.  Besides the typical problems,
(rear defroster switch inoperative, no R-12 from sitting unused for long
periods of time) the car is in great shape.  I do have a few questions
tho:

1. The idle seems to pulse.  The RPMs bob up and down a bit, and the oil
guage
follows it (going from 80 down a bit and back up).  When the engine
is hot it doesn't seem to do it.  Any ideas?  The car does need an oil
change, which brings me to my next question...

2. 7 Quart crankcase capacity?!  Is this right?  Why so much oil for a
fairly small V6?  I am switching the engine over to synthetic and the
bill
just got much more expensive.  Also, the owners manual gives a huge
range
of oil weights to use, are there any preferred?  I was going to go with
Mobil 1 10-W30 (mainly because I have a few cases of it for my
Bonneville).

3. Did all cars come with the PTFE (?) clutch cable?  Or did some have a
steel cable (which everybody seems to prefer for obvious reasons).

4. While not too important, just curious:  The front tires are stock, but
worn
in such a way that it appears that when the 'American' springs were
installed the toe was not properly adjusted.  Anybody else observe
this or
did the previous owner just take all the curves at 90MPH?

Thanks for any answers!

Joe,

I talked with people who worked in the quality assurance centers on both
coasts and they discribed the hours spent wire brushing things like brake
rotors because all that time parked near the oceans on the two ends of the
continent had corrosive effects on the chassis components.  I'm still
inclined to belive the undercoating was applied to reduce this problem,
aside from the rotors that is.
None of the DeLorean dealers in my area offered undercoating and the only
cars I've seen with it were the cars that sat after the company was about
done.

I am interested in the DeLorean very much at at this point don't
own one.  I would like to find one, but I find that they are generally
very high priced.  I understand this is a rare, exotic car but I just
don't see myself paying $20k (generally more) for a car that hasn't been
run in years - or that needs other work.  Anyways, I will browse this list
to see if the DeLorean is right for me.  If I could find a good running
DeLorean, I just might jump all over it.

Subject: DML: Fuel Pickup

Seldom do I feel that I can improve on  the design of the professional
engineer, but I'm convinced that the engineer who designed the fuel
pickup system must have worked for Lucus.  Again my $expensive fuel
pickup line is lying in a gummy mass on the bottom of the tank and I
have the common, quarter tank fuel syndrome (no long curves or steep
hills).  I'm sure that the new reformulated fuel is the culprit in
eating the natural rubber hose.

I've found a replacement pump which is listed as a Delorean cross (it's
a Bosch pump for a VW) which has NPT female threads on the bottom and
will accept a elbow with a quarter or three eighths barb fitting for
neoprene fuel hose.  I'll run three to four feet of hose, making a
circle in the tank, and connect to the existing pickup strainer with
another elbow and a coupling with an inch of larger hose on the coupling
to fill the space and a stainless clamp.  I may have to cut some slots
in the strainer neck for the clamp to hold.

I haven't started the project yet but it seems so simple that maybe I'm
missing something.  Any comments would be appreciated.

I am quite close as DeLoreans go! in Berkeley just a few miles north.
Driving it is really the best general way to find all the problems. I have
most of mine worked out except for a mystery won't run at all problem.

Your no power problem could be a simple as timing or an IGN weakness. You
might also have dirty Injectors, which would allow for low rpm but fail to
deliver at higher rpm demands.

The engine now does not start, so I can't run your test. I plan to do a
bit'O gas down the intake to see if the engine will catch while cranking.
It won't do so with the horrid starting spray my wife uses on here Toyota,
After that I thought about  pulling a plug and do a crank-it-watch for a

1. Yes, it is normal for the idle speed to cycle until the engine reaches
operating temperature.
2. 7 quarts to fill is correct, the result of a good design, more oil
means
cooler oil.
Oil weight is based on your climate and driving habits.
3. All cars left the factory with plastic clutch lines.
4. Your uneven tire wear is probably due to mis-alignment. What brand and

Dave,
Don't dish out any money for parts that your not sure are bad, especially
the fuel distributor which goes for around $700. Your problem is probably
related to your fuel enrichment circuit. Check to be sure that your
frequency valve is operating. It is located on your right hand valve cover
and should be buzzing whenever the engine is running. If it is working
your
problem may be related to an improper CO mixture adjustment.

Although they are almost triple the cost, I now believe the best solution

KAPAC was bought out by DMC Houston. Go to DeLorean web page and click
them.
Good luck and Aloha!

DMC Houston, now in posession of the former Kapac inventory, has the
best web presence.  It includes much technical information, a chance to
register for a free E-mail newsletter, and a complete online parts store.
The URL is:
www.usadmc.com

DeLorean One, which carries a full line of DeLorean parts and
accessories, also has a web page.  Its URL is:
www.deloreanone.com

While they don't sell parts for DeLoreans, the DOA features some good
stuff for DeLorean Owners, and they have a good web site.  Their site
features an excellent list of the top parts suppliers and service
providers. Go to:
www.delorean-owners.org

Chances are you already know that there are a few parts, some
accessories, and a bit of memorabilia available at the DML / DMC News
page at:
www.dmcnews.com

If someone is aware of a web page from PJ Grady, DeLorean Motor
Center, Bauerle Automotive, Turbo Manifold, or any other DeLorean
vendors please post the URL for the rest of us.

Subject: DML: Window repair

I recently sent my late 81 to the shop (for an unrelated problem which did
not involve any work on the door or window) and when it was returned, the
driver's side window, when raised, was somewhat askew so that the top edge
was about 1/2 inch below the fully closed position at one end. Otherwise,
the window acted normally and sounded the same as the other window which
was
operating correctly.  I returned the car to the shop for a further repair
to
the window and, when I got it back, the window operated correctly, but
sounded like a coffee grinder when operated.  The gears did not seem to be
meshing correctly. Before spending a king's ransom for a new unit, I
wondered whether there was something out of alignment or some adjustment
which can be made to remedy the problem. Thanks.

Some pumps are quit sensitive to suction line loses.  I believe that you
have a positive displacement pump, so you may noy have a problem.  Make
sure that you use as large diameter line as possible.  Perhapes steel
tubing would be better, it will last forever and will not kink or
collaspe.

Ive been keeping my eye on http://www.pjgrady.com/ for a few months
now.  I don't know if it is officially open, but there is a site there!
(a bit slow, but very nice!)

I am guessing because there is no restrictions on access to the site
that it is OK to be there!

I have not yet seen it listed in any search engines.

Congrats on your new purchase.  I would like to offer you a word of
advice.  I will warn you that not everybody on the Delorean Mailing list
will agree with me but here it goes.

Send your car to one of the more reputable Delorean Service Centers  and
let them give your car the once over.  You will be glad you did.

When I got my car it had the same mileage as yours (9k) and after
going through the exercise of the (weak) Ducallier Alternator
replacement I decided to send my car to Stephen Wynne's Delorean Motor
Company in Houston, TX.  There are others(P. J. Grady, Delorean One,
Bauerle Automotive, just to name a few).  Ask around.

I am also a believer of spending the $60 to join the Delorean Owners
Association (http://www.delorean-owners.org).   You might want to
consider going to the Delorean Owners Association EXPO in Los Angles
over the Labor Day Weekend.

In the words of Dennis Miller, "this is just my opinion, I could be
wrong".

Happy Driving and Welcome to the Family

An inductive timing light is a good investment that can be used to test
the
ignition. Inductive lights have a clamp that wraps around a spark plug
wire
rather than unplugging the wire on the cheaper variety. If the light
lights
while cranking you have spark. With the plugs rather un-accesable on the
DeLorean, this is an easier route.

Subject: DML: DeLorean '95 Expansion Released!

Hi,

I wrote to inform everyone who has downloaded DeLorean '95 that
Expansion 1.0 has been released, which can be downloaded at my home page
at http://members.tripod.com/~Phoenix007/index.html, it was fully tested
and works well. I'm also beginning to work on some new projects such as:

~DeLorean '95 (ver. 2.0)- Will include expansion packs and be smaller in
byte size. May throw in some extras. Planning an August Release.

~DeLorean '98- Once I get my copy of Windows '98, I will begin working
on DeLorean '98, which will take advantage of Win '98's new features.
DeLorean '95 should work fine for now on Windows '98. Release date: N/A

~Expansion 2.0- Already have plans, new start button is in the works for
it, plus some other add-ons. Release date: August 1998

        Later,

Question from a Foreigner!

Excuse my ignorance of American History, Culture, etc, but pray-tell
when is your "Labour Day Weekend"?! I bought my Nov.'81 DeLorean at
Easter in LA and will be coming back in late-Sept./early-October to
drive her accross to Baltimore, for shipping back to N.Ireland. Would be
interested in joining the fun in LA.
