LOL! We like to fuel at Costco, as it saves about 10 cents a gallon
over the gas station down the street. But Costco is a 20 mile round
trip. So if we go there just for gas, we'd spend $2.50 to save $1.00.
The numbers would have to be a lot better to make it worth the trip.
Let's say Costco's gas was 50 cents per gallon cheaper. Never going to
happen, but I'd save $5.00 (minus $2.50 to get there and back) = $2.50
in my pocket. Now the question is: Spend $2.50 for a 5 minute round
trip (literally), or save it for a 30+ minute round trip?
I'd spend the $2.50. Even if I had to do it 4 times in a month, that's
$10 to save 2 hours of time driving around.
Instead, every time I'm near Costco, I stop and fill up even if I
don't need it. That does save money.
