My gears still turn, yet the cable keeps unwinding. Last fix was to
solder the remaining stub. Thought I had run solder all the way into
the gear housing, but apparently I didn't because that's where it
unwound this time -- deep inside. I've never opened up a gear housing,
but the time to do so apparently has arrived. Will be an educational
experience because I've heard 2 different stories about the gears: 45
degree and ring/worm.
Have you noticed that the lubrication hole is upside down? Totally
useless. Installed on a right wheel however the lubrication hole would
be upright -- yet more evidence of DMC misapplication.
Perhaps the angle drive was intended for a speedometer magnet that
spun in the other direction. I'm sure Smith Motor Accessories Ltd
didn't tool up just for DMC.
