Yes a 915 can be built to handle the power and they area available with
LSD. However many people complain about the way they shift and the
syncro's not working well with modern gear lubes. All the people in the
VW communities either go with a 901 or a G50. I don't know of any
problems with a 901 but the 85-86 G50's have a bad habit of exploding
1st gear. The other problem with the 915 is you will have to figure out
how to convert a cable operated clutch to a hydraulic. Or you could
find sportamatic which replaces the clutch peddle with a sensor in the
shift lever and a vacuum operated actuator at the tranny. I had an '69
auto-stick beetle which was the VW version of the system and loved it.
It allowed quicker shifts , once properly adjusted, didn't have to
heel-toe, and was more fun to drive in heavy traffic. I don't know how
much those actuators cost or if it would even fit in the DeLo.
