Marc,
The 6-speeds are geared a bit higher (I think that's right)
meaning more RPM's per MPH to take advantage of the 3.5L and 3.8L flat
6's ability to rev and their higher RPM power band. The 901/915 boxes
are geared a bit wider and take advantage of the broader torque range.
I learned this in my quest to transplant an LT-1. With 300 HP and
325 lb.-ft. of torque I've been told that 1st gear is all but
unusuable. Although, 0.6:1 6th gear is a great cruiser....:) One of
the best people to talk with about the Porsche gearboxes (if you
haven't already) is Scott at Renegade Hybrids. I think Duke worked
with them as well.
