Where is the best place to jack the car up, and place the jack stands?
I want to get the car completely off the ground, sitting on four jack
stands so I can replace all four brakes at once. The back is easy (I
use the rear frame, but see below for more info on this), but I have
no idea where to place the jack or stands for the front.
More details:
I read that one should use the jack points behind the front wheels and
in front of the rears. I found little round metal looking "plates" in
these locations and assumed these were the jack points. So I jacked
the back of the car up from the center of the rear frame like I always
do, using a length of 2x4 to distribute the pressure more evenly, then
put my jack stands at these points in front of the rear tires. When
setting it down, however, the entire car flexed - A LOT. The front
began to lift up, and I heard creaking and all sorts of scary noises,
so I stopped letting the car down. I jacked it back up and put the
stands in the back on the frame, which works fine.
Was I doing something wrong?
