I got curious today and checked out the solenoids on a transmission that is out of a car & partially disassembled. It had grenaded, by the way, due to it being installed in a DeLorean with a Buick engine swap which evidently gave it too much horsepower. Anyway, the resistance of the solenoids measured 25 ohms each. John H & David T gave conflicting numbers, so I checked for myself. I tried powering them off of a 12V battery with a 5 amp fuse in series. I only got a little sparking with no movement or noises or anything. But then this tranny has metal chunks falling out of it. In theory, I think the solenoids should move around when powered, but I didn't get any response with this one. Maybe taking them out of the tranny will give different results. I didn't try that.
