Mike, it is called a "grille" with an "e" on the end. This word means "grating" such as is used over a radiator. The word "grill" is for a cooking surface. And yes, I suppose that a grille can look like a grill and vice versa, but yeah whatever. Some early cars have the front grill held on with screws. So before you go pulling it off, check between the grooves to see if there are any black philips head screws in the corners. Or in your case those may be clumps of rust.
