A hooka (or shisha pipe) is a giant freakin' bong. In the mid-east, it's a common thing to do at the end of the day. Folks (men) sit around in a group typically, and smoke 'em. Watching tv, or just yakking. Some put hash in 'em and some just put shisha tobacco in it. Shisha tobacco is mostly fruit and molasses with just a bit of tobacco in it. I was recalled for 6 months and was stuck on 27' gunboats on the trigger of a .50 cal M-2 or being the captain for 6 months. It was hot. So at the end of the day, that's what we'd do to relax. 'Nuff said.
