Mine does this very same thing. It scares the hell out of me but I know it's not overheating because shortly after the needle peaks, it drops down to normal. All of this despite the fact that I have the self-bleeder installed. I have a "Bubbler" on order to check for combustion leaks that could generate a bubble in the coolant at the thermostat. If I find that my head gaskets are good, it seems that maybe the thermostat is screwy. > -----Original Message----- > From: Martin Gutkowski [mailto:webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] > Sent: Wednesday, May 21, 2003 2:11 PM > To: DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: Re: [DMCForum] Re: turn signals/hazard lights > > It sounds exactly like the problem we had with the thermostat failing > - here's a test which is a bit scary - take the lid off the expansion > bottle and run the engine up to roughly the point where the fans should > come on.
