I remember a few GM vehicles, such as early '80's Oldsmobile and GM pickup truck diesels, who had what looked like hydraulic lines connected to a piece in lieu of the vacuum brake booster. Someone explained this to me as the diesel not being able to provide enough vacuum for all of the functions of the vehicle. Maybe this is something like you mean Jim, or was this something else? Cars without a vacuum power booster are called manual brakes. I have three cars so equipped. Or not equipped. =) But like I said, I personally have never seen nor worked on one that used power steering fluid. The complexity of the system is quite a bit of overkill compared to any vacuum system, and I can't imagine it working much better. Simplicity of design = cheap & effective; two things that manufacturers love. -Dave -----Original Message----- From: Jim Strickland [mailto:ihaveanaccount@xxxxxxxx] Sent: Saturday, April 19, 2003 12:50 PM To: DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [DMCForum] power brakes eh? like I said, I would call it "vacuum assist" before I call it power brakes. Otherwise, why distinguish it? Almost every car built has vacuum assist. Check on Cadillacs and Lincolns for hydroboost. Every mustang made since '96 has it... Am I on crack?
