You can take off the rotor with or without the spindle. If you take off the outer nut, you should be able to take the rotor off the spindle. You may need a gear puller type arrangement if it is difficult. You can also take off the inner nut (angle drive nut on the left) and remove the spindle and rotor at the same time. This would be harder, but might just fall off in your hands. Depends what feels like giving.
