Well, here's my two cents on the transport either way: Yes, the car MUST be facing forward. Otherwise, wind resistance on the louvers may well tear them apart. If your louvers are already cracked, it will definitely tear them apart. In terms of protecting the cracked louvers, is the car OK to drive? If you can drive it as-is, it should transport as-is just fine. I can't really think of any way of protecting the louvers from further damage, other than maybe a large amount of duct tape. Personally, if they don't sustain further damage while driving, I think they'd be fine on the truck. I wouldn't put it on top of the carrier. Underneath seems safer to me, too. He's probably worried about potential oil leaks from cars sitting above it. I'm pretty sure the transport companies address such issues. On the other hand, riding on top shouldn't hurt it any.
