Mike -- we all know I'm one of the more mechanically challenged of 
the group but I had/have a similar problem with my D and I suspect 
it's the alternator.   My mechanic graciously tried to save me some 
money and had the original M-90 rebuilt, which I thought was a huge 
mistake.   For mine, sometimes the initial effort to start the car will 
drain the battery enough that  a second try is useless.

I'm half offering an opinion and half looking for one................LP
