Sorry to be so cynical, but any "viable" alternative
has been, and will continue to be a target of the rich
and powerful oil industry.
They are so afraid of what would happen to them if a
viable alternative existed, they make sure it never
sees the light of day!
I'd bet if they took the money they have spent in the
past 50 years to stop competition in to research for a
viable alternative, we would have many by now... But
why bother? Still plenty of dead dinosaurs to be
pumped out of the ground!
We also see this locally in NJ, where the established
energy companies are funding groups to fight the
construction of off-shore wind-mill farms. Claiming
it will kill birds!! KILL BIRDS?! Are you kidding
me? All of that crap being pumped in to the air from
the coal burning electric generation facilities are
good for birds?? Pu-leeze.
Conservation? That is a hard one too... My parents
are building a new home, and the materials used
(Windows, insulation) are the MINIMUM REQUIRED by the
township. My parents asked about upgrading the
insulation and windows? NO, not available. Can we
come in and add insulation before the sheet rock goes
up?? NO. Can we upgrade the windows after we own the
hose? NO (the condo association regulates the
windows!). End result: They will have 2X the heating
bill they should have. Still less expensive than
having a custom home built from scratch. I purchased
a home built in 1970, and renovated it. In the
process, replaced all of the windows with top of the
line Anderson, and added insulation everywhere (more
than doubled the thickness in the attic). My heating
bills are HALF of what they were before, and that is
with the inefficient 30 yr old furnace!
BTW, anyone else notice Tilly is back in business?
