If the stainless is alloyed correctly then it will not rust. You can see
rust develop within the stainless grains if anyone used anything containing
steel on the stainless. For example, someone using an SOS pad or other
steel wool abrasive that can leave remnants on the stainless. A scratch can
also harbor the materials that will rust if the item used to cause the
scratch was made of steel.
Or, whoever peed on your door had a very high iron content in their urine :)

Lauren,
This is not meant to be a wiseass comment---I have a
damaged Delo door that was "peed" upon, (not by me)
and guess what, the dented parts are fine, but the
scratched areas are rusting. I realize this is not a
scientific study, but, it verifies what I have always
heard, SS rusts if scratched.
If someone knows any other reason why it would rust,
only in the scratches, I would be appreciative of an
explanation.
