Hi John
The DeLorean tranny is the 369 which is IDENTICAL to the UN1 internally.
The shift mechanism however is different, and specifically, the diff is
mounted backwards in the DeLorean (rear engine versus front engine/front
wheel drive, or mid-engine/ rear wheel drive as in the Esprit). You
can't put a UN1 from a R25 in a DeLorean, but you could take your
existing box, and the spare UN1 to a specialist and have him rebuild
your 369 with the UN1 internals and the diff the other way around. I'm
doing exactly this with a Renault 30 369 box I bought on ebay to
compliment my 25 turbo engine which will red line at 7000rpm anyway. The
only thing needed in mine is simply to turn the diff round, and in my
case, I'm swapping the input shaft for a 21 spline one and using one of
Toby's couplers.
The final drive to look out for is the 3.8:1 used in the R25 and the R30
(the 30 uses a 369 manual box too but most are autos) - the DeLorean's
(and all the Alpines) is 3.44:1. There's also a 4.1:1 - great for drag
racing but not much good on the motorway!
Michiel Bohmer has rebuilt hs box using R25 internals.
