When I first put the Delco 110 amp alternator in Winged1, I wasn't
sure about which wire went where for the two small wires that plug
into the back of the alternator, so I took a shot at it and
guessed.  One wire is the field excitation wire, and the other goes
to the idiot light.  When I started the car, all seemed okay, until
I went to shut it off.  It wouldn't shut off, regardless of what I
tried.  I finally put it in gear with the brakes on, and slowly let
out the clutch to kill the engine.  What I am alluding to is that
you may have a short or electrical weakness in the alternator that
is associated with heat, and is providing a feedback current into
the coil and other parts of the electrical system.  However, since I
am no expert in automotive electrical theory, I will bow the
collected wisdom in this group.  Let us know what you find.
PS - I wonder if a failing auxiliary relay could result in this
bevavior? (relay 35 and 36 in the relay diagram)

near-perfect condition.  Recently, I took the car on a 130 mile
trip.  When I arrived at my destination and turned off the car,
everything shut down electrically except the engine!  I even pulled
out the keys, and the engine was still running.  Thinking quickly, I
opened the fuse box and pulled out the fuel pump fuse, which of
course shut down the engine.  When I put the fuse back in, the fuel
pump turned on again.  So I guess turning off the keys turned off
everything but the fuel pump.  To fix the problem, I disconnected a
battery cable, waited 5 minutes, and reconnected it.  This fixed
everything.  Of course, when I drove the 130 back home, the problem
happened again. It seems to only happen when I drive a considerable
distance, as running to the store does not cause this problem.
