I did not lock any working keys in my car. I lost my one working key. When I first bought the car, I knew nothing of DeLoreans. The PO handed me one stubby key. It did not unlock the doors but it did start the car. I asked her if she had a door key and she said "no". I drove away assuming I was missing a door key and that DeLoreans just had wierd, short, ignition keys. The door handles were both broken off, so I had to leave a window rolled down anyway. Fast forward 3 months. I've replaced the door handles and now I've discovered that the stubby key is a broken key, and the rest of it is lodged in the ignition switch. The broken key had been filed smooth so that it doesn't look broken. Ken Creason told me how to find the key code on my car. He cut me one, mailed it to me and advised me to get copies made (which I've been trying to do locally). I have 2 brand-new blanks locked in my car. I lost my only working key, probably in Florida, in my uncle's yard. He says he can't find it. This is why I don't care if I can safely break into the car. I still need a key cut to drive it. It's in the mail (hopefully). Hope that clears it up.
